There’s potential here, albeit of a moderate sort -- the character banter, with an ensemble featuring not just one but four different versions of comic relief, is passable, and John Noble could (and maybe is) do this kind of role in his sleep. Go to Full Review

The show mostly just transparently trades off the "Trek" title without feeling like it's going anywhere, boldly or otherwise. Go to Full Review

The series, like most Star Trek stories, strives for a higher ideal. Yet whereas the live-action series comment on modern-day society, Prodigy is the first show focused on how people become the kind of heroes that populate Starfleet. Go to Full Review

Prodigy doesn’t waste any time explaining anything—it trusts the audience to work things out on their own and learn on the go, as the cast of characters learns alongside them. Go to Full Review

It strikes a tone that will be unfamiliar to longtime fans. But it’s also good enough in its own right and worthy of the same leeway to accomplish what DS9 did so many years ago -- mark its own place within the Star Trek universe. Go to Full Review

Jerry A @RT68856893 Nov 17 Best NuTrek to date. See more john c @RT65772837 04/02/2025 A WONDERFUL series both 1& 2....fantastic animation beautiful colours WONDERFUL adventure & new worlds...truly lovable characters & lots of cameos & surprises old & new ... a new adventure & a walk down memory lane. I loved every second. Thank you See more Travis C @RT50001888 01/25/2025 It's an excellent entry point, although the end of the season seems a bit nostalgia filled. See more Amanda K @RT03827981 11/30/2024 Growing up with TOS, TNG, and VOY, I’m so thrilled to see this show added to the line up of great Star Trek series. It’s such a special treat to get to see legacy characters like The Doctor, Admiral Janeway, and Chakotay, (not to mention VOY-A) and the acting, score, and graphics in this show all come together to make one bang-for-your-buck television experience. The children are endearing, charismatic, and relatable. I love how the story of the kids almost mirrors that of the Maquis in VOY. Rebels, fugitives on the run, who get a second chance at proving their worth and character and stand up to the task full fold. It’s everything trekkies world wide love about the franchise, with a fresh new take and served in a fun, engaging, and digestible fashion. It will be a shame if we don’t get season 3! See more Ben J @RT46551381 10/02/2024 A worthy addition to Star Trek with nods to the Voyager series. I really like it, well thought out, with great stories, and more true to the spirit of Star Trek than any of the new live action shows that have come out, except Picard, of course. See more Jonathan D @RT18399892 09/02/2024 While I've always enjoyed the depiction of a protopian instead of dystopian future society, I found the lower budgets of previous Start Trek distracting. The alien species made it hard for me to suspend disbelief. Then the storylines were just not quite exciting enough to turn me into a trekky. And the recent hollywood reboots threw the highest level of budget and effects at it and it felt hollow, without charm, empty. Then along comes Star Trek Prodigy, with an explosive beginning to the series, setting a tone that finally found a balance between everything that was enjoyable about older star trek without going so hollywood that it had lost all charm and conenction to it's roots. Not only that but it's animated! Finally there was no limitation on the scale of imagination a story like this deserves. The rendereding of the aliens were no longer distracting! Every charachter was able to be depicted at the same level of quality! The premise is simple: are you not really into the stuffy, somewhat dorky world of starfleet? What would happen if a bunch of non-starfleet misfits got hold of the most powerful starfleet ship ever made? Watching with my 7 yr old, I was in, hook, line and sinker - perhaps more than him. The first season comes to a massive conclusion... but then it was only the mid season climax, and then there was a whole other half a season with another equally satisfying story arc and ending! The second season hit some territory where it grated against my own personal taste. I just don't find stories about time loops and time paradoxes enjoyable. But the many redeeming qualities allowed me to endure and enjoy the ever deepening development and changes in the charachters. I'd be curious if others felt the time paradox story thread was dragged out maybe a too long or if it was just me. It's not really made for kids. It's made for families. And I'm very much looking forward to seeing the next season. As long as they don't return to more time paradox story threads anytime soon, i feel like i'm gauranteed a great time with what has become my favourite version of Star Trek ever. If anything, I may be ruined for other forms of Star Trek, and may only want animation from now on. See more Read all reviews
