Tv Season Info

The sitcom "State of Georgia" stars former Cosby kid Raven-Symone as Georgia Chamberlin, an ambitious wannabe actress who moves to New York City from her hometown of Atlanta along with her best friend, the nerdy science whiz Josephina Pye (Majandra Delfino). They are offered life advice and a place to live from Honey Dupree (Loretta Devine), Georgia's aunt, a racy, fun-loving party girl. Josephine quickly establishes herself as part of a physics study-group at grad school consisting of Lewis (Kevin Covais), who is in love with her; chubby, quick-witted Leo (Jason Rogel); and Seth (Hasan Minhaj) who quietly pines for Josephine. Plotlines in the first season include Georgia landing her first paying gigs, Honey's apparent money problems, Georgia accidentally ruining one of Honey Dupree's dresses, and the ridiculous lengths Georgia and Jo will go to in order to impress dates.

Critic Reviews for State of Georgia Season 1

All Critics (3) | Top Critics (1)

State of Georgia just comes across as a straight-down-the-middle girls-in-the-city comedy that wouldn't have been out of place on ABC or NBC's lineup back in 1987.

That [Majandra] Delfino, [has] a charming social awkwardness, [and] her character steals every scene she's in, even the ones with Georgia's Aunt Honey (Loretta Devine)

State of Georgia is about adults who can't stop behaving like teenagers. The mood is cheerful, the colors are bright, the music - composed in part by Liz Phair, of all people - is peppy.
