Strike Back: Legacy Reviews

Searching for meaning in Strike Back is like asking a garden shed for investment tips, but it's amusing to watch some quite good actors trying to take the script seriously. The poor dears have to eat, after all.

The watchwords of golden-age TV are characterisation, complexity, and ambiguity. Strike Back smacks that logic in the nuts before throwing it off a moving train that's about to explode.

It's breathlessly paced, with some seriously well-choreographed chase sequences through Bangkok's canals and alleyways. Welcome back, guys!

I have very much enjoyed this show, which has always exuded an intelligence that made it both enjoyably substantial and emotionally engaging. But all good things must come to an end.

Those violent altercations, fun action sequences, and general sense of adventure are why people tune in to Strike Back and the show doesn't need to be more than that.

Perhaps the most appealing thing about Strike Back, at least on a subliminal level, is its utter lack of moral equivalence. Good is good and bad is bad and nobody's going to force you to feel guilty about any gray areas.

Strike Back is the kind of show that blends effortless cool with unrelenting action.

Scenes of quiet only serve to bridge action sequences. Our heroes move from one shoot-up to the next. The biggest item in the show's budget has to be for squibs.

It's a shame that Strike Back is leaving us with when it still feels capable of shouldering a few more world-ending crises, but it's going into its ending with gas in the tank and its clips fully loaded.

It incorporates the look and spirit of video games and violent comic books into a television series as well as any show around.

I say it every season of Strike Back, and every season it's true: They've topped themselves again ... The final season is well worth the wait.

Damien Scott and Michael "Mikey" Stonebridge are action heroes to the max-the Cinemax, more specifically, mascots of mayhem for HBO's pulp companion network.

Strike Back's primary goal isn't to tell a story, it's to show-off the always entertaining relationship of its characters, particularly that of Michael Stonebridge and Damien Scott.

As much fun as it was watching the "Strike Back" production team work wonders on a tiny budget and cramped schedule, I can only imagine how cool it would be to see Scott and Stonebridge wreaking their special brand of mayhem on a big screen.
