Season 1
Superman & Lois
Though it may be a bit too grounded for some viewers, Superman & Lois draws strength from unexpected places - without skimping on the action -- to carve its own path in a crowded superhero universe.

Critic Reviews for Superman & Lois Season 1
All Critics (35) | Top Critics (12) | Fresh (30) | Rotten (5)
Hoechlin and Tulloch have an easy chemistry honed by years of playing these characters on The CW's other superhero shows; a little reminiscent of Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher on the mid-1990s series Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
Berlanti and Helbing have created a stand-alone universe that is easily opened up to other possibilities.
There's no reason why a Superman show can't be fun and cool, while still working in the social relevance and teen-friendly melodrama that anchors the Arrowverse.
Leaden mediocrity [is] the main foe of Superman & Lois at its outset.
What is surprising is the tone and focus of their new spinoff series, Superman & Lois. This is a big, splashy two-hour premiere of a Superman series that's first and foremost a somber family drama about reverse mortgages.
In some ways, the fact that Superman & Lois feels very different from the shows that have come before it is one of its strengths, and its inherent heartfelt sincerity brings with it a lot of promise; promise it may be able to live up to.
We can also commend a CW show about an alien in blue tights somehow having more logic and believability than the high schoolers of "Riverdale."
It's taking two world-famous characters in a new direction on the small screen, and that's part of what makes Superman & Lois so exciting.
Given that creators still struggle to get DC Comics characters to work on the big screen, Superman & Lois arrives with a fresh take and sure of what it wants to do.
If The CW insists on making more superhero shows at least this mashup of past Superman TV shows gets off to a rousing enough start.
The complaints against the first handful of episodes screened for critics are small compared to Superman & Lois' strengths. It is an alluring first step into a new frontier and might be just the ticket to infuse some new energy into the Arrowverse.
It's a veritable love letter to Superman history in the first few minutes of the show, and it's all the reminder that fans need that Superman, Lois, and their 80+ year history are in good hands.

2h ago2 Episodes in and it's good so far. I like the fan service with the original Superman outfit and carrying the green PT Cruiser paying homage to the cover of the first issue. Good story telling and the characters are developing quite well. Ordinarily I don't like tokenized characters BUT I am liking Luthor. This is the CW so my fingers are crossed.

4h agoThe CW get's shows wrong, either eventually with shows like smallville or arrow or initially with the more recent entries (supergirl went off the rails as soon as it moved to CW and batwoman is abysmal from the pilot trailers on) and as such I wasn't excited for them to revisit Superman. I was pleasantly surprised to be so wrong on this show. Not only has the same superman who was so castrated on the supergirl show broken out as a great superman but the writers have found ways to pleasantly surprise me with all 4 members of the family at none of the others expense which is truely remarkable writing for the CW in todays environment. With the CW's record I will remain vigilant but I will be cautiously optimistic about this show moving forward.

13h agofinally a normal show witch does justice to Superman this is how you make an show that is good and has no politics and diversity issues is worthy of a superman label . I hope they keep it up and give ALL the cast gets worty development and chance to shine ..

16h agoI think the show needs more superhero action and less social issues. Nobody reads a Superman comic book because they are interested in reading about social issues. Give me amazing supervillains and loads of action. Also, Superman needs as shave. He's got 5 o'clock shadow 24 hours a day whether he's Superman or Clark Kent. Rather odd.
-
2d agoI am enjoying the show as much as I hoped. The actors are great, storytelling on point, and I couldn't be happier. Looking forward to future episodes.
-
2d agoFinally a Superman who gets beyond the initial Lois and Clark romance. Fantastic camera work layered with good solid writing. I cannot wait for the rest of the shows. If you are looking for the 5th grade rockum sockum Superman, then this isn't for you, but if you want a more mature Superman dealing with trying to be a dad, husband, and a superhero, this is your show.

2d agoWell, I saw the previews and looked good enough to give a shot. Haven't watched the CW in years, got me to download the app. This show so far exceeds expectations, movie quality, with a really unique plot going between the action and how that plays with the family life. Acting amazing all around. Looking forward to where this goes. Keep it up!

2d agoWas looking forward to a Super Hero action show, not a Lifetime Family Drama.
-
2d agoNicely done take with real situations.
-
2d agoShockingly good and Bitsie Tulloch & Tyler Hoechlin are amazing and so are the boys. I also like the mystery villain. It doesn't feel like network TV it feels like a movie or cable show. It is really hopeful and inspirational and I especially like when Clark nerds out! Reminds me of Reeve
