Critic Reviews for Superstore Season 5

All Critics (10) | Top Critics (3)

The show seems to be strengthening its approach to trickier, potentially polarizing topics while still staying true to its characters.

Oct 1, 2019 | Full Review…

This good-hearted workplace comedy about a big-box store in St. Louis is the only contemporary sitcom about American workers that threads class consciousness...through every episode, without being too didactic about it.

Sep 26, 2019 | Full Review…

Its particular saving grace, and a big part of the reason it's been around for five seasons, is the charm of America Ferrera as the store manager and Nichole Bloom as one of the associates.

Apr 6, 2020 | Full Review…

It's no Frasier (what is?), or Schitt's Creek, but it is home to a large cast of solid characters (my favourite has to be Dina, the assistant manager/drill sergeant), sharp writing, and it's great to see a shop again. Any shop.

Feb 19, 2021 | Full Review…

Superstore thankfully hasn't lost its sense of humor, even as the material it deals with gets more serious.

Nov 5, 2019 | Full Review…

There's some funny stuff within this story, and it may be the most important story in terms of advancing the show forward.

Sep 27, 2019 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

I genuinely love each and every character on Superstore, and how it can deploy any one of them for the A-story on any given week.

Oct 6, 2019 | Full Review…

As always on Superstore, the show continues to address the issues affecting the lives of everyday people with humor and heart.

Oct 2, 2019 | Rating: 9/10 | Full Review…

After an emotional finale that kept viewers on the edge of their seat, Superstore made a simultaneously heartfelt and hysterical return.

Sep 27, 2019 | Rating: 4.5/5.0 | Full Review…

The NBC workplace comedy has defied all the odds to not only get better with age, but more vital.

Audience Reviews for Superstore: Season 5

  • May 25, 2021
If we weren't so committed to the series at this point, we'd never have become hooked by the content of this season. It's all groan-worthy comedy now, often requiring characters being put in trope "mindless comedy writing" situations. Was such enjoyable escapism for four seasons, but really fell off the cliff for some reason this season.

Superstore starts taking on a slightly less funny approach to some topics, but keeps it mostly lighthearted
  • Sep 06, 2020
I wish i saw Amy interacting with people on the floor more but still super funny and entertaining keep it up!
  • Jul 24, 2020
The best part about Superstore is that the main characters (jonah and Amy) are the worst characters, while the supporting cast of Gina, Glenn, Marcus and Cheyenne are the best part, showing the depth on the cast as a whole.

I love this show! Every episode is hilarious! It some of the best TV 2020. Look forward to Season 6

My first few jobs were in retail & customer service, which might explain why I have become addicted to this show. It's relatable! With a diverse cast of mostly young talent, every episode is packed with hilarious antics, social dynamics and a sprinkling of relevant issues or themes of our day. I appreciate that it never gets dogmatic or heavy-handed, but rather has a healthy balance even on the rare occasion that politics pop up. Since the first episode, Superstore has reminded me of The Office; there are many clear themes & elements that have been "borrowed" from the previous hit, and they mostly work. I have laughed (out loud) throughout many episodes, so I feel it deserves the 5/5 I'm giving it.

This show just continues to get better with every season but I am so, disappointed that America Ferrera is leaving the show. The writing is exceptional, it it hilarious and the best it has ever been. America Ferrera gives another phenomenal leading performance, she is really funny. Lauren Ash, Mark McKinney, Kaliko Kauahi, Nichole Bloom, Nico Santos, Jon Barinholtz, and Ben Feldman gave outstanding supporting performances. The makeup and hairstyling was excellent especially on America Ferrera, Nichole Bloom, and Lauren Ash. This was another A+ season.
