A new life awaits 22-year-old Tess when she arrives friendless in New York City and lacking any specific ambitions beyond finding a job. Her charm and observational nature lead to an invitation to train at one of the city's best restaurants. She thinks it is a temporary place to wait for her life's big break, but Tess is quickly intoxicated by the people she meets and by the chaotic world behind the scenes -- tasting expensive wine, exploring dive bars, learning whom to trust. Her co-workers become her family, and through them she finds a sense of belonging that she has never encountered before.

Sweetbitter's dizzying range of directors and writers perhaps explains the unevenness of the episodes. Though each one is coated in an appetising glaze, the ingredients beneath can vary in quality.

I usually agree with the "Tomatometer" but the critics are wrong on this show. Just watched the first 2 seasons over 2 days. So disappointed to see it was canceled. Perhaps if it wasn't on Starz, it would have had more traction. Better than 95% of what is available on streaming right now.

can't believe i only just found this tv series (july 2021) via stan. for me, i was hooked from the beginning and i really didn't expect that i would get addicted. love it when you find a gem! it stands out for me because i think for 1, it's a new setting (hospitality industry, particularly fine dining) and 2, the stories of some of the characters and/or their relationships with one another was intriguing and 3, i just liked the feel of how this tv series was produced overall. this show didnt feel as though it was 'trying hard,' it really felt unique to me and i just really enjoyed every single episode. i don't normally leave reviews for tv series or movies but felt the need to give this one some love. i wish it was made more known but just unfortunately one of those that may have fell through the cracks in terms of promotion?

I stumbled on this show one night on STARZ and I am hooked. Season 2 has been great so far. This is my favorite show and the only reason I keep STARZ
