Instead of a cableized Vampire Diaries-style take on the wolfman myth, MTV got a warmed-over, underacted mess that feels more like a bad Twilight parody.

We've got a pilot that has its moments but feels like the first 15 minutes of a movie stretched out to an hour, with no real sense of what the show is going to be moving forward.

Teen Wolf would be a much better show if it took its own advice - stop trying to imitate other people and just be yourself.

As it is, the goals of this Teen Wolf are so modest that, even though it meets them, I'd be more likely to listen to Mark Safan's synth-heavy "Win in the End" anthem from the 1985 movie than I am to become a regular viewer.

The show plays out with a generally lackluster vibe, except in the performances of Posey and O'Brien, who wisely choose to avoid heavy-duty brooding and pouting.
