The Chicago Code quickly finds its way. It borrows a little from The Wire, and a little from EZ Streets, but those are great places to start.

"The Chicago Code" is almost precisely what you would expect from a cop drama created by Shawn Ryan for network television. And that is meant to be read with a sense of cautious celebration rather than cynical resignation.

We're going to go ahead and say that "The Chicago Code" is, in fact, one of the best new series to hit the air this season, and that would be true in a better year for television as well.

The Chicago Code may stick to police-procedural formula, but it does have most of the elements needed to make the show at least a moderate success.

The City of Broad Shoulders is certainly a fertile venue for a copshow, and "The Chicago Code" tackles the town's rough-hewn reputation for corruption with mixed but mostly entertaining results.

The locales are great, the plots are interesting and the acting for the most part is good -- although they should have cast actors who don't look like lingerie models.
