Critics Consensus

Trevor Noah's confidence and likability augur well for The Daily Show, even if his edgier jokes are hit-or-miss.

Critic Reviews for The Daily Show With Trevor Noah Season 1

From his first moments on air, new host Trevor Noah gave fans The Daily Show they have known and loved for years, with a few upgrades.

If [Noah's] not quite the proxy for Stewart -- and his progressive rage -- that most viewers want right now, that's probably OK too. Stewart wasn't Stewart when he began either. It just might be fun to see who Noah eventually becomes.

Noah, a former Daily Show correspondent, confidently checked all boxes required of the new guy taking over a beloved institution.

After one night, Noah no longer seems like such a random choice as host.

Noah was polished, funny and most of all cool.

Noah's debut was less the commencement of a new regime than it was the arrival of a scrupulously courteous houseguest making sure everyone knows he's going to take the best possible care of the old place.

Noah could've had a better debut, but he also could've had a much worse one. We can compare the new guy to Stewart all we want, but this is essentially Noah's show now.

[Noah] is smart. He's quick. And unlike, say, Jimmy Fallon, he doesn't seem overly eager to please.

But overall, the message of the first night seemed to be: don't worry, Daily Show fans. Things aren't going to get too different around here.

Audience Reviews for The Daily Show With Trevor Noah: Season 1

Not only is the new guy not very funny, but listening to a foreigner criticize American politics rubs me the wrong way.

The most negative talk show about your own country! Be prepared to feel disappointment every second, as Trevor talks terribly about his own country... oh but he is a comic , so everything is exaggerated as well. Wonder if I can give zero stars;lets find out !

    This show is HORRIBLE

A lot of Trevor Noah's political or social commentary is really clever and shows he has a very thorough understanding of American politics and international crises while still keeping a sense of optimism whenever a major disaster invades our media's headlines, even though not all his jokes make so much sense. My favorite sketch was Mike Huckabee always talking about food. Like seriously, what the FUCK does "Republicans are the Golden Corral Buffet" mean? That Republicans... Republicans are deep fried chicken wings? Republicans are Angus prime steak? Republicans are golden dollar chocolate chip cookies served with ice cream? Huckabee you fat fat man-baby, grow up and beg for food to your momma, not on national TV! Trevor's ISIS help center call performance alone deserved an Emmy - so hilarious and clever how he stated "Hello? ISIS Technical support. Oh, I'm so sorry to hear your suicidal vest is not working. Did you try this solution instead?" But then again, he tries to make his entire program all about telling jokes, so it's expected that a lot, if not most of his jokes are just to fill up the half-hour time slot mandated to him by the network. One example of those jokes is that he just states Transformers 4 is not much better than TF3. As I much as I love Transformers movies and as much as I like Trevor, I don't really care of his opinion of the Transformers movies.

Terribly unfunny, I wish I could give negative stars. Clearly the critic reviews are paid

An immigrant who is paid to insult the country and its president with lies and an obvious liberal agenda. A bunch of name calling and hate mongering. Poor excuse for entertainment or journalism.

He's a good comic. His style of mimicking political figures is on point.Above all he has great material.
  • Jan 17, 2017
Another show packed full of whiny liberal tantrums
  • Aug 20, 2016
It's not terrible like Larry Wilmore but it isn't any good either. Feels like bad stand-up comedy at times. The only bright spot for me was Desi Lydic, she is hilarious.

I use to always watch the Daily Show, yet, since Trevor Noah I just cannot get into it. Simply the guy is not very funny, Comedy Central needs to find someone else.
