Although it's impossible to guess where the story is ultimately headed, it could end with either a bang or a whimper and be equally satisfying.

While The Game is far from a broad analysis of Britain's socio-economic construct, it does analyze what was at the heart of David Simon's first season. Is it all in the game, or is the game the only reason people play?

The threat from Russia will seem overdone to some, but I remember that icy fear of cold war all too well, and entirely buy it in this instance.

It's a cleverly constructed puzzle that wears its influences on its immaculately tailored sleeve.

Dec 9, 2014 | Full Review…

The Game is wonderfully atmospheric, stylish, and sexy.

Dec 8, 2014 | Full Review…

The Game, which looks a little like another BBC period thriller, The Hour, is a cleverly conceived throwback to a time when the Soviet Union was a truly scary riddle wrapped in a nuclear arsenal.

Dec 8, 2014 | Full Review…

Like an earlier BBC America series this year, Intruders, it's a little dense and hard to follow. Everybody seems to be calling everybody else a traitor.

Nov 6, 2014 | Full Review…

The drama excels in the realms of atmosphere, tension and mood, and these are the vital things that a spy drama can't get wrong.

Nov 5, 2014 | Full Review…

The pacing is quick, the motives murky, the characterizations deft.

Nov 5, 2014 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

Brooding in tone yet laced with mordant wit and tinged with sinister inference, The Game keeps us wondering what the Russian sleepers' end game might be.

There are things to love about The Game, there are things to shrug at about The Game, but at the very least, there's nothing to truly hate about The Game.

Dec 8, 2014 | Full Review…

Its short run and clear objective should hopefully hook viewers that may not be entirely drawn in by the series' first episode. But by its third, it's hard to not be entrenched in The Game's world, and curious about where it's going to end up.

Audience Reviews for The Game: Season 1

Absolutely loved "THE GAME"..while it was on. Why not more than just one season, I'll never know. I love this genre and the writing drips in espionage as if it was from the pen of John le Carré’s monozygotic identical twin. It has a certified fresh rating of 95% for a reason. I suggest you watch it in closed captions with your DVD so you can understand it a little better (if American) and so you can rewind parts that might confuse you too much. It is a first rate production of the Cold War terror that we all feared at times growing up in the 60's and 70's.

En la mejor tradición de relatos de espías clásicos como Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, de John le Carré, con un gran elenco encabezado por Brian Cox y una ambientación estupenda.

Cold war spy drama done with a subtle undertone of doubt and conspiracy. Moody and complex, bluff and double bluff. Truly brilliant, a collectors piece.

If you enjoyed MI5 (a.k.a. Spooks) "The Game" will keep you enthralled in its storyline. Very clever and terrific acting.
