What to Know

Critics Consensus

Despite a good premise, The Listener's narrative is too unoriginal and uninteresting to turn its potential into a truly compelling show.

The plots are complex enough to sustain mystery, and if the mean streets of Toronto aren't all that scary, this is a good thing for a show that is trying not to shock, but to entertain. Go to Full Review

The Canadians make nice TV - pleasant, intelligent TV, where people, even the bad guys, are civil and fundamentally decent. In a word, "The Listener" is boring. Or, if you prefer alliteration, listless. Go to Full Review

It's all dopey - and as believable as a telepathic paramedic, a supermodel detective and a partner who doesn't notice he's riding around with a psychic. Go to Full Review

There's potential. And if the stories each week use the best aspects of Toby's gift to tell interesting tales, then The Listener might end up being perfect summertime viewing. Go to Full Review

This genre is getting pretty tiresome, and The Listener doesn't do much to freshen it up. Go to Full Review

Chris J @RT87793214 Aug 14 Though this program is no longer on NBC, I recently began watching it on The Roku channel. This program is very poor, both in acting and in the premise of an EMT/Paramedic as a crime fighter. The cast is weak, and the characters are not convincing. They sound as if they are reading directly from their scripts. It's a struggle getting through episodes, without questioning their authenticity. I may not finish season 1. However, I do believe in giving programs a fair chance to redeem themselves. But, I don't hold out much hope this program can. See more Read all reviews
