Too many plots when the main one is excessive already. [Full Review in Spanish]

Though some found The Newsroom to be heavy handed with its social and political diatribes, it remains a solid entry in the HBO canon.

So much of this last season of The Newsroom, and especially the finale, read as Sorkin recognizing that there was a problem with his own show.

Stripped of the forced romances, the internet slamming, and the "I am Spartacus" levels of everyone saying they are Don Quixote, it's actually a really good show. A good show in desperate need of an editor.

Ties up every loose end for every major character, then dumps a suffocating layer of schmaltz over the entire affair.

Look, The Newsroom was never going to be my favorite series, but I didn't expect it to make my head blow off, all over again, after all these years of peaceful hate-watching.

Even though HBO practically renewed and canceled season three on the same day, Sorkin seems to be making sure he leaves on his own terms, reminding everyone he's out for now but not out for good.

The Newsroom is being allowed to die a slow death with an abbreviated third and final season in which not enough has changed.

With the characters in a good place, Sorkin's strongest arcs to date help give season three an unexpected cohesiveness.

Sorkin's disasterpiece went out, well, exactly like you would suspect: hopeful with a touch of arrogance.
June 21, 2018
It was pretentious, it was patronizing. It was elitist and smug. And it was fun to watch.
June 21, 2018
Even the typical razor-sharp banter here wasn't enough for me to shake the feeling that I was watching a lame-duck show.

At times, there's urgency, and the pleasant, familiar crackle of Sorkin's dialogue... but at many others, the show and its characters seem to be going through the motions.
June 21, 2018
The frustrating thing is that, from my perspective as a journalism dinosaur who still remembers a pre-Internet newsroom, Sorkin is generally right... But Sorkin's characters are just so obnoxiously pious about it.

Watching Mr. Sorkin's Newsroom is a little like watching the news - if you don't like one segment, the odds are pretty good that there's a better one right after it.

The Newsroom ends its three-season descent into irrelevance this weekend. Even for hate-watchers, it can't be too soon.

What The Newsroom has is the spirit of the classic film The Front Page, with bite and truth underlying it.

There's little left to recommend about the series now.

I'm sure Aaron Sorkin thought he was going into The Newsroom with the best of intentions. But he came out of it with a preachy, gloppy mess that more often than not forgot that the core purpose of TV is to entertain.

This is the end of The Newsroom as we know it. Glad to see the final act getting off to such a robust start.
