Critic Reviews for American Crime Story The People v. O.J. Simpson
All Critics (93) | Top Critics (47) | Fresh (90) | Rotten (3)
The performances here are amazing. Cuba Gooding Jr. is a ball of angry narcissism playing Simpson, and Sarah Paulson brings a wounded humanity as prosecutor Marcia Clark, who faced sexist insults for her appearance and underestimated the impact of race.
Thoroughly absorbing through the first six episodes made available for review, it fully lives up to the FX come-on: "You Don't Know the Half of It." This is true even for those who think they do.
The series feels hyper-real, hypnotic, and more relevant now than ever.
The cast is the highlight here, with special nods toward Sarah Paulson's Marcia Clark and, shockingly, Mr. Travolta's portrayal of Shapiro, which is just enough parts measured and absurd to be a scene-stealer.
There are numerous surprises, including how riveting the tale is in this telling.
Alexander and Karaszewski have delivered a drama that's both as soapy as you'd expect from the man who created Nip/Tuck and surprisingly genuine as historical document.
I would highly recommend these 10 hours of extraordinary TV, which makes for a great binge-watch. It includes some of the best acting I have seen this year, which deserves to be award-winning, and it is absolutely gripping.
The protagonist's guilt or innocence is kind of beside the point. The show is about what happens when human nature meets mass media, a subject that is even more relevant today than it was back then.
These and the other hard-hitting minor keys ring out loudly and clearly amidst the unseemly, undeniably compelling gladiatorial spectacle, and what elevates The People v OJ Simpson to the level of a masterpiece.
With a solid cast, strong writing and direction and excellent production value this is ten hours worthy of your time.
We may all know the ending, but the series looks to be packed with nail-biting tension, stand-out performances and compelling insights into one of the most infamous court cases in U.S. legal history.
A triumphant debut for American Crime Story. Powered by strong performances, the show offers a fascinating, riveting look at the complex cloud that engulfed a murder trial...
Audience Reviews for American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson
-
Jan 04, 2021A thrilling and well done piece of pulp fiction. Murphy at his best.
-
Jan 01, 2021the verdict was never the end game. the show is gripping even in its slowest moments. must watch, even for those who think they know about the case.
-
Oct 14, 2020Far from a sleazy recount of high-profile opulence, The People V. O.J. Simpson is rich with accurate detail, and grapples with the complex social issues surrounding the trial.
-
Oct 12, 2020The accuracy and incredible intricacies portrayed shine through into every corner that they illuminate even the poorest parts of the series (which are hard to come by in the first place) Jaw-dropping, gripping, alluring. A heart aching story told in a work of cinematic beauty.
-
Sep 09, 2020Gripping, great acting, and best of all: It's a true story. Whether you like AHS, true crime stories, or just a look behind the scenes of a trial, you will probably love this as I did.

Sep 07, 2020This is the best criminal show to watch right now on Netflix or FX. The direction was fantastic, the cinematography was beautiful, the casting was perfect and I'm so glad they finally made a real life crime TV show true to the story without being offensive and over the top. It is not a show for everyone, due to a slower pace focusing on the court sessions, but It wasn't bored slow. I was actually on the edge of my seat, tense and into it. The reason its slower because it focuses deeply on all of these characters, which is what I care about the most (who wants a movie where a character you don't care about dies or stays alive). My favorite part is the acting, mainly to Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark, she was a very competitive and emotional character that hit me hard at some points of the show. *SPOILERS* Even if you know what happened like the White Bronco chase, "If it doesn't fit, you must acquit.", and O.J. putting on the glove, it's very tense because the TV show recreates those moments, perfectly. This show was truly perfect and there was nothing wrong I can find.

Sep 02, 2020The acting is flawless .. the best acting in a tv series ! Funny I watched it to see David Shwimmer, and finished all episodes the next day! Story wise, What a shame! It's CLEAR without any doubt the animal o j did it! This series for people to see the stupidity of jurying system in USA How come common people who had not been prepared through study and experience to have the final word in such complex sensitive crimes! Honestly its ridiculous!

May 25, 2020"The People V O.J Simpson: American Crime Story" is gripping, interesting and hopeless. You can tell it has a lot of research and preparation. The cast is very well chosen, but Sarah Paulson shows us that she is a wonderful, excellent and special actress who knows how to treat and perform the character, in this case to a real and living person, which adds an extra weight that she knows how to handle very well.
-
May 10, 2020- good acting (Courtney B. Vance as Johnnie Cochran & Sarah Paulsen as Marcia Clark) - thought provoking (legal system, influence on the jury, medial/press on this case) -a lot details -thrilling & addictive -bit cheesy -sometimes shallow presentation of some of the sticking points/moral topics the show deals with (could dive even deeper in)
-
May 08, 2020Cinematography was fantastic, as well as all of the performances. The dull tones and visuals of this season greatly conveyed its hard-boiled, legal-type drama status. Great watch and thoroughly investing.
