Told through an array of scripted scenes (and songs), this fictionalized take on comedian Sarah Silverman's daily life finds the title character falling into sometimes bizarre but usually hilarious predicaments -- all with her sister (played by her real sibling), her nerdy gay neighbors and a colorful police officer never far from her side.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

While Silverman herself isn't the most likable sitcom character, that's also part of what makes this clever, outrageously offensive, bizarre, and relentlessly hilarious comedy tick.

She's gifted, for sure, but what she's doing here isn't comedy for grown-ups. Sometimes, what looks like taboo-shattering jokes are just juvenile, attention-seeking antics. Go to Full Review
Austin Smith New York Post 09/17/2019
There are parts of The Sarah Silverman Program that are so inventive it makes you wonder why she has to veer so often into the loo of lowered expectations. Go to Full Review
Paul Brownfield Los Angeles Times 09/17/2019
Silverman, a thinking-person's insult comic, doles out an array of slights and put-downs and, as usual, she's a Trojan horse of shock humor: cute and coquettish on the outside, brainy raunch if you get close. Go to Full Review

Whether she's making fun of homeless people or getting stoned on cough medicine, the premeditated un-P.C.ness of these six episodes gets real tedious real fast. Unless, perhaps, you're a 13-year-old male nerd. Go to Full Review

It's not quite as funny as Jesus Is Magic, her excellent live comedy film, but given the constraints of basic cable and her comedic style, The Sarah Silverman Program is a reasonable compromise. Go to Full Review

[Sarah] Silverman is a gifted performer. She never breaks character, making a painful spectacle of her maniacally impolite, prejudiced, vindictive and self-centered ways. Go to Full Review

07/19/2021 I made a mistake and you can't go back and edit your reviews here. I wrote on "Jesus Is Magic" that theatre employees make minimum wage, but that's not true. A lot of the employees are "volunteers", especially theatre ushers who put up with a lot of patron BS, and the theatre takes great advantage of their free labor. Sound familiar? Yeah, so... At least the volunteers love what they do. But, if you want to show corporate America how to act, you've got a chance to address it in your own act with the people working your own show. xxoo See more 02/06/2021 Totally weird and unique. Hilarious. See more 02/06/2017 Sarah Silverman Program is far from either the best or the worst live-action sitcom, and Sarah Silverman herself isn't as funny as she is chatty and purposefully annoying, but the episodes are still entertaining. See more 04/22/2015 Sarah Silverman's Program stars a fictional version of Sarah Silverman who is an unemployed single Jewish woman in her late 30s living in an apartment funded by her sister, her gay neighbours and various characters have outrageous adventures. Season 1 was not that great until it got to the last episode. See more Read all reviews
