Six seasons in, The Walking Dead is still finding ways to top itself, despite slow patches that do little to advance the plot.

Critic Reviews for The Walking Dead Season 6

All Critics (25) | Top Critics (12)

There's few things on TV that possess that real sense of danger, but The Walking Dead has proven time and time again that it is happy to sacrifice its sacred cows. The only question with season six is who will be first on the chopping block.

Good or bad, digestible or not, The Walking Dead simply exists in its own atmosphere. Maybe that's reason enough to hold it to a higher standard. If nothing can stop you, then shouldn't everything be on the table?

Oct 12, 2015 | Full Review…

What this spells out for the rest of the season - which of our heroes will survive, whether they'll stay in Alexandria for the long haul - isn't necessarily clear, but it's a great kick-off to Season 6.

Sunday's episode is exceptional, marred only in a few spots by padding that's inevitable with these supersized episodes.

Oct 8, 2015 | Rating: A- | Full Review…

The Walking Dead looks very much at the top of its game, with strong character material mixed with a massive set piece in the extended premiere.

Oct 1, 2015 | Full Review…

The Walking Dead, more than any other show, takes responsibility for its carnage. The characters who remain carry the burden of those who do not.

Oct 14, 2015 | Full Review…

Despite the cop-out ending, The Walking Dead S6 still has moments of genuine class and thrills.

Instead, we get the march to nothingness that is "Last Day on Earth", as unsatisfying and brazenly manipulative a finale as you'll watch on television this year.

You have a season that meanders around, but is rarely boring, which we haven't always been able to say for The Walking Dead. But we can now.

Sep 26, 2016 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

While season six may be a step up from the previous season in several regards, including story, characters, and entertainment value, there are still a number of problems in all of these areas and more that continue to hold it back from its full potential.

Aug 19, 2016 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

Call it escalation, maybe in response to the tepid spinoff Fear the Walking Dead, but Walking Dead in its sixth season premiere wants you to remember the nightmare started here, and this show owns it.

Oct 10, 2014 | Rating: B | Full Review…

It's taken us six seasons to get to a point where we know this much about the characters. A better show would have gotten us there sooner. Maybe "The Walking Dead" has finally turned the corner.

Audience Reviews for The Walking Dead: Season 6

  • May 11, 2021
A great and fast season. One of the best seasons of the walking dead. The survivors continue to face big problems from the dead and the living in their community. All goes well till they get caught in one of the best cliffhangers this show has made.
  • Apr 28, 2021
The first half of this season is boring. The second half has a useless episode (#13). It's somewhat redeemed by the other episodes of the second half, which are great.
  • Apr 18, 2021
With clever directing and compelling characters, the sixth season is a standout.
  • Apr 02, 2021
The writing is not nearly as strong and it is clear the show is slipping.
  • Apr 02, 2021
    Really awsome bro ❤😀
  • Mar 15, 2021
Season 6 is a heavily action packed season with powerful moments and contains some of the series best episodes. Although, it does have it's weak moments as well.
  • Mar 10, 2021
Not as good as past season, but still good.
  • Feb 08, 2021
Amazing This season is another one that has everything to give the viewer Screenplay, and violence Perfect season

Yup. This show still sucks. All it does well is gore. Tired of the showing of present events and flashing back to events leading up to said events in the episodes. It doesn't add a layer to what you're watching which is probably what the writers are going for. Can't they at least let it build up? It's not hard to follow it's just annoying. All the same issues from the beginning of this show still linger, namely lack of any real arc, flat acting, poor dialogues, annoying villains, angst, boring interpersonal drama, etc. Just because a show employs a lot of good special effects and is the so-called height of zombie fashion does not make it good. I mean, they learned that you can walk around with a walker with no arms and jaw and not get attacked yet they're still bumbling around the woods? Mmmmkay.

Season 6 of TWD is outright AMAZING! The introduction of the characters Negan, Jesus, and Gregory are GREAT. The colony called Hilltop is also extremely cool. I have a feeling Season 7 will diverge more into that. The introduction of this group called The Saviors is also very cool, and I just feel like when it comes to TWD, it's just so amazing, you can never stop watching! (Note: I just watched the Season 7 premiere, and it was SO GOOD)! 🙂
