The polyphonic narrative format and faultless performances save The Affair from itself.

There was something satisfying about this finale's extreme focus on the characters and their real, true, honest emotions.

This season, the show appears to be back on the divergent subjectivities theme, which is where it belongs, where it is best.

The Affair is back, still with the same, mournful opening song by Fiona Apple, misty shots of Montauk and now sunny Los Angeles. It has a little more depth this time around, even if we still love it because it's guilty as sin.

No one can argue with the talent, but good acting can't make a good storyline.

The entire series finally crystallized for me, in a way it just hadn't before.

The Affair is solely about people who are incapable of moving on and as a spectator, that can be a frustrating experience to watch. [Full Review in Spanish]

Growth happens, here and there, but there's always another emotional crisis just around the corner... Which is exactly what draws us back to "The Affair."

Speaking plainly, I adore it.

The Affair is Noah Solloway and I am a woman who gets repeatedly seduced by him, even though I should damn well know better by now.

Audience Reviews for The Affair: Season 4

May I ask WTF happened to the writters of the script in season 4? Unfortunately the creators of the series invented ridiculous stories to kill time, they added some very dull and superficial characters “to fill In” when there was no need to do that. This series has enough with its long time Characters and stories to be GREAT and does not need anything else. The way they kill the LEADING CHARACTER SUCKS like she didn’t matter at all but what annoys people the most is that the NOBODY cares to look for the truth behind Alison’s death. Whatever problem the producers or The Affair had with Ruth Wilson should have been managed differently.

I gave it a second shot after the disappointing 3 season. Only because of the great acting and the way it is shot it is not a morning soap opera, and a very sad and hopeless one

    Excellent season, closer to a 4.5* than a 3.5*.

The show where if two strangers have a polite conversation for 2-3 minutes, they jump into bed (or onto the nearest table or counter-top) and have sex.

After a middling third season, The Affair's penultimate year is more than a return to form, and is indeed a series best. While the show was always exemplary in how it used noir-ish tropes in transgressive ways, this season expands on that area, not only by giving us really transfixing moments with the established he-said/she-said dynamic, but also really conflating them with the thematic material. One of this season's best new additions is the character Sierra, who reveals herself to be a bit of a new-age femme-fatale, communicating immensely on the show's focus on generational gaps and self-awareness. Still, the show's established characters come off richer than ever this season, with standout episodes including "405" and "409", augmented by writing that's never predictable, and revelations that truly feel like they come from a real place. Sublimely balancing intriguing melodrama with encroaching humanity, The Affair almost feels more like it's a novel than a television show (not unlike vogue series like The Wire, The Sopranos and Mad Men), and there's little doubt that the final season now has all the components in place to go out in spectacular fashion.

Loved this season. Some of the best TV I’ve seen in a very long time.

Show is captivating from Fionna Apple's song that opens the show, to the writing, acting, and most importantly the way the show is broken down explaining the perspective of each main character...5 stars 4th season is the best one yet...looking forward to the 5th and final season!

Amazing writing, one of the "truest" series out there. Great season.

Well written and acted...a little depressing for me but had me long enough to finish it and felt overall satisfied
