"The Affair" explores the emotional/psychological effects of two affairs. Young diner waitress Alison and her husband, rancher Cole, are struggling -- personally and financially -- in the wake of tragedy. Noah, a settled teacher and would-be novelist, is summering at his in-laws' Hamptons estate with his wife, Helen, and four kids. When Noah meets Alison, they begin an affair. For her, he's a welcome escape; for him, she's a pretty distraction. But, the tryst eventually ends two marriages -- one that was already a bit shaky, the other that was on solid ground.

There was something satisfying about this finale's extreme focus on the characters and their real, true, honest emotions. Go to Full Review

The Affair is back, still with the same, mournful opening song by Fiona Apple, misty shots of Montauk and now sunny Los Angeles. It has a little more depth this time around, even if we still love it because it's guilty as sin. Go to Full Review

No one can argue with the talent, but good acting can't make a good storyline. Go to Full Review

KOOKLA C @Kookla49 10/20/2024 amazing best show I've seen in a long time... Great acting and story line! See more Ann W @Doxiegirl 08/17/2024 Ruth Wilson deserved so much better!!!! Not only is her character brutally murdered but the episode itself is overly long and boring! The creator (Treem) claimed that she had to “kill off” Alison, but she didn’t. The actor playing Cole was also leaving the show and they could have resolved it by having Alison, Cole and Joanie move somewhere to have a new life, but NO, Treem has to make everyone miserable. Quit watching after this sick episode. See more 07/05/2021 This show started off with an interesting premise, much like the classic film Rashomon – a movie about an event perceived from different perspectives. But maybe that was too slow for folks so the show started to go off in increasingly ridiculous directions. OK, fine, crazy keeps the plot going, while the glue for the show remained the twisted relationships among the main characters. But by season 4 it's hard to ignore what the lead actresses had to say about the show, about the constant pressure to be nude, and about the lack of interest in what they saw as the future of their characters, leading to the tired trope of the tragically doomed woman. So The Affair starts off in a potentially interesting place and ends in an all too familiar and tired place. Listen to your actresses, they are why most of us were watching to begin with. See more 01/04/2020 Amazing season as always! See more 11/22/2019 Having hung in there (barely) throughout, I found the 4th season, and I assume its conclusion, to be the redemptive. See more 12/28/2018 May I ask WTF happened to the writters of the script in season 4? Unfortunately the creators of the series invented ridiculous stories to kill time, they added some very dull and superficial characters “to fill In” when there was no need to do that. This series has enough with its long time Characters and stories to be GREAT and does not need anything else. The way they kill the LEADING CHARACTER SUCKS like she didn’t matter at all but what annoys people the most is that the NOBODY cares to look for the truth behind Alison’s death. Whatever problem the producers or The Affair had with Ruth Wilson should have been managed differently. See more Read all reviews
