What to Know

Critics Consensus

Emphasizing spycraft's heavy toll to both intriguing and tiresome effect, The Agency situates its all-star cast in a sumptuously-shot world of espionage.

You have to hand it to The Agency. It must have taken a lot of effort to make a series starring Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright, Jodie Turner-Smith, Richard Gere, and executive produced by George Clooney this boring. Go to Full Review

…The show is impeccably controlled in its tone, meditative almost, but gripping as various plots are outlined that will obviously continue to be developed in the same fashion as The Bureau unfolded. Go to Full Review

The considered pacing, and labyrinthine storytelling, feel apt. This is a show that knows what it is building to, over this season and future ones. Go to Full Review

This deep dive into what it takes to constantly lie about your life and identity is powered by superb writing, acting, and edge-of-the-seat thrills Go to Full Review

The episodes seem far too long, and large swathes of screentime feel like treading water; it's as slow as molasses. Go to Full Review

You get the urgency of world events, secret bedroom adventures and-oh!-that Fassbender, with his firm mouth, noble profile and burning gaze. Go to Full Review

Matthew S @pcxdrone Jul 19 Downright excellent spy drama, and this is just the first season. Very memorable characters and I really like the pacing and the writing throughout. This show is one to put on your watchlist, and if you are a fan of CIA based spy shows or just crime dramas in general, or pretty much just excellent television than this is for you! This one is getting four point five stars out of five stars which equates to a exceptional A- rating! See more Nathan R @RT84567293 Jul 13 I wish more shows had the same level of writers as the agency, great stuff See more Rhonda B @Ronnie22 Jul 9 I think this is one of the smartest shows on TV. Love that it doesn't dumb it down for it's audience but expects you to keep up with the storyline. Great cast & the storyline/plot has enough twists/turns & nail-biting moments to keep you on the edge of your seat. Great cast bringing this story & these characters to life. Can't wait for Season 2. See more Jonathan G @psre6162912 Jul 7 Incredible television. See more Sandeep V @RT38856115 Jul 1 You have to say it’s a well made show, superbly acted by a stellar cast led by Michael Fasbender. They have spent serious money in making it so the production looks good too. But the story telling is disjointed. It can’t make up its mind what it wants to be when it grows up. It’s not exactly John Le Carre or Ian Fleming or Robert Ludlum or Tom Clancy, while at the same time it tries to give the impression that it takes the best of both the cerebral as well the action side of espionage fiction and creates a neatly packaged show that has it all - it does not. While the spycraft is well done the storyline becomes irritatingly slow, clumsy and at times pretentious. Still, the wonderful acting by a great cast (who can pass when Mr. Clooney’s production company calls), lovely editing and good production value makes it watchable. See more Anonymous A @anonymous8185 Jun 28 Haven’t made it to the 2nd season yet but enjoyed the 1st so far. It is an extremely slow burner but with great visuals & acting. A very zero dark thirty spy drama imo See more Read all reviews
