This draws too heavily on other crime thrillers and the predictability removes any intrigue, which greatly diminishes the thrills, boiling this down to a forgettable and run-of-the-mill story that progressively reduces engagement the longer it goes on. The Asset barely skates by on an appealing lead performance by Clara Dessau and a spy premise that has some interesting possibilities. How long did it take Tea to become the diamond expert she appeared to be? It seemed like a very short period. Why, when they were trying for a confession, did Tea not offer the fact that Maran had tried to kill her by suffocating her with a plastic bag? Isn't that attempted murder? The acting was uneven.
