Too cute, too silly and too unreal, The Big C remains "The Big Twee."

Laura Linney remains a wonder on The Big C, where her lead performance as afflicted Minneapolis schoolteacher Cathy Jamison merits another Great Big A

"The Big C" is a good series that's fun and dramatic in equal parts that deals with themes that are sentimentally vital. [Full Review in Spanish]

All you can often ask of a series is for its characters to move forward in some way. That's clearly happening here. Combined with stellar performances, The Big C should make for appointment viewing.

The end result is that, despite the fact that I'm a huge fan of Linney, The Big C irritated me more frequently than it got me interested in the present and future of cancer patient Cathy Jamison.

The Big C feels much more alive, even though it's a show about a woman, Cathy (Laura Linney), who's dying of stage 4 cancer.

The series feels much more relaxed now that Cathy and Paul are back together. Linney and Oliver Platt have such easy chemistry that their broken marriage of last season seemed like a waste.

When The Big C works, it's because we see the ironies, sometimes humorous, other times sad, of facing a terminal illness in the context of everyday life. For Cathy - and for viewers - that's what really counts: "life" and "every day."
