Critic Reviews for The Blacklist Season 6

All Critics (5) | Top Critics (1)

Where previous seasons may have asked us to bring something back from the long and winding serialization of Red-and-Lizzie, the premiere of season 6-is working on more of a minute-by-minute recall time.

For now, there appears to be a legitimate shift in how [Red and Liz] talk with one another. The power dynamic is as balanced as ever, which makes for a far more compelling race to the next big reveal.

OMG, the suspense is too much now. James Spader is killing it, Megan Boone is so amazing that I can't find words to describe her utmost top acting performance. The writer Jon Bokenkamp and the directer Joe Carnahan have done a spectacular job that is beyond words.

It's great and keep you attention all the time.

The first arc is focused primarily on Red's legal issues and although completely fantastical was riveting to watch. And the execution scene was The Blacklist at its best. Add to that what was to me a huge unanticipated betrayal and one has the makings of a great season. The later part of the season not as good, the story got a bit convoluted, but still good enough to allow me to give the show 4 stars.

Somewhat disappointing but pulls it iff in the end by making me want to see more! Also for tv it's def much better than most. Too bad they killed off a fave character. Tho they could bring her back.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Blacklist. I LOVE James Spader as Reddington. The rest of the cast is pretty awesome as well. Red's daughter Elizabeth Keen very often ruins the show and the way her character is written is beyond absurd. In season 1, she's introduced as a young, inexperienced profiler, just getting involved in the task force and coming to understand the crime world she's about to be involved in. Within half a dozen episodes, she's barking orders at all of her male counterparts, even in the middle of gun battles as if she somehow transformed into a freaking superhero. I've hated her character ever since, but have watched the show because of Spader. He is AMAZING as always. Over the years, I've watched a few episodes, then lost my tolerance for the absurdity of Keen's character and would drop it for a while. I'd go back and catch up when there wasn't much else on and still loved Spader every step of the way. Season 6, was super happy to see Christopher Lambert in a few episodes (even though he is a bad guy). I made it to episode 6 where Reddington is fighting the legal battle over having been turned in anonymously (*By Keen, big surprise she's an idiot AGAIN) and is arrested and fighting in a freaking court to keep his immunity deal and keep the task force going. Spader gets to defend himself in court and it brings back memories of his Boston Legals days. It was EPIC to watch him at his best. Ultimately, he looses his case and is now facing criminal prosecution and blah blah blah. I was FOREVER DONE with the show, then and there. I was disgusted that played out that way and of course Keen is working behind the scenes against him. Question: do the writers not realize we watch shows like this for an escape and entertainment? Do they not realize we WANT to see our favorite character WIN????? I'm sure Reddington will prevail in later episodes and there will be some "Big Payout" episode and the writers will pat themselves on the back at what a good job they've done.... I won't be there to watch it. I'm out. This is not escapist entertainment anymore. I don't watch shows that make me stressed out to see my favorite characters get the crap kicked out of them repeatedly. DONE!
