Critic Reviews for The Blacklist Season 7

All Critics (3) | Top Critics (1)

Spader remains the best reason to stay tuned to what is otherwise a fairly pedestrian espionage drama.

Best yet, unlike so many "finales" in this coronavirus-ravaged TV season, this felt like a season finale, as Liz was forced to finally choose between her mother Katarina and her surrogate father Red.

An incredibly twisty, seriocomic mystery show that's part police procedural and part chess game with the audience.

Audience Reviews for The Blacklist: Season 7

This season wasn't the best, but it was good.

Loved it from beginning to end

Very good season where you learn more about Reddington.

Liz's story line keeps getting worse and worse, dragging the show down from once great heights. Ravi has recovered a bit after being irritating the last 2 seasons. But Harold, Denbe and Reddington and his crew are carrying the show.

This tv show should have ended by now and wrapped things up. I don't understand how it got good reviews, and keeps getting extended. I keep giving this show a chance when I have nothing else to watch, but it's bad. Agent Keen is the most frustrating out of the characters, and I don't think she is good in this show. The story just keeps dragging out, or repeats itself.

Whatever writers they fired or who quit, they need to get them back, ASAP, at any cost. Season 7 is a complete washout. The plot has gone completely downhill. Even Red isn't what he used to be. I never liked Elizabeth Keen (Mary Sue, much?) but this past season, her choosing a psychotic, Evil woman who abandoned her as a child, over Red who has saved her at the risk of his own life over and over, even though she betrayed him--over and over--is the final straw. I never liked Liz--now I loathe her. Her only redemption would be a horrible death at Red's hands, and him flying off into the sunset, victorious, finally free of whatever ridiculous reason he was ever loyal to this waste of an idiot woman to start with. Ressler's episode where he goes home to Detroit was completely out of character, and his reactions to his own sins and his brother were nonsensical and confusing---but that was par for the course this season. Not a single episode stands out as something to feel good about. The final episode was absolutely horrible--the animation was like something out of GTA, 1997, and the breaking of the 4th wall by the actors five minutes into the episode was jarring, and unrealistic. I'd rather have waited for the season finale than be subjected to this poorly constructed insanity. Kudos to the actors for putting up with this ignorance from the writers, directors and producers this long. Spader is, as always, amazing but its hard to be amazing when you're handed....this to work with. I only finished the season for Aram and Denbai. Will not be watching season 8 until all the episodes are done and the reviews are in, and then, with much reservation. Whatever magic made this show great, is long dead and buried.

animated parts were terrible. they ruined the whole show. my 007 video game on my Nintendo 64 had better graphics then that. i would have rather waited for the season to come out then have watched whatever bs that was. absolute waste of time and you guys money. who ever approved that should be fired

For the most part Blacklist Season 7 was very good until you come to the last 3 episodes. "Brothers" was boring (snore) and would be great to put you to sleep. The ending episode of season 7 was a big let down. Switching back and forth into a horrible animation state cheapened the entire series and make me think, why did I buy this dvd. Yes COVID19 is a problem but the last episode should have been left for season 8. That would ensure a season 8 to be forthcoming and better usage of the episode to honor the death of (Brian Dennehy) Elizabeth's grandfather not to mention Elizabeth is beginning to be annoying

One reason I will not give the show 5 stars is mostly due to the preachy gun control rhetoric of Season 7 Episode 15. This is a great show that normally has wonderful story lines, the characters are good, and Red/Dembe are amazing. Other than that it's a really solid show that keeps you wondering what's going to happen. Liz can get annoying with her constant "I have to know" attitude that causes more harm than good, but overall a great show. Drop the political BS though and stick to the awesome plots, don't ruin this show please.
