The Brink: Season 1 (2015)

TOMATOMETER

Critic Consensus: The Brink avoids disaster thanks to the game efforts of a talented cast, but they - and viewers - deserve political satire with a sharper bite.

Critic Reviews for The Brink Season 1

It takes a little time for the show to get its bearings. But both Robbins and Black are soon up to speed and off the rails.

The Brink is a grim would-be comedy grindhouse full of half-baked one-liners propping up an overbaked plot.

Fans of Veep will point out that it's funnier and more psychologically acute than The Brink, but its season is over. You watch the shows you have.

This is one of the most star-studded disappointments in recent TV memory, an awkward political comedy that mistakes raunchy humor for intelligence and only reminds one how hard it is to pull off something with real teeth like Veep.

This series really takes chances with its casting, and those chances really pay off.

The dialogue is smart, biting and sporadically funny as it convincingly argues that its strange fiction is truth and turns the wartime stuff of our nightmares into the blackest of comedy.

In a way the audience who should watch this documentary immediately are progressives, because it is a fascinating, unnerving portrait that goes right into the heart of the beast.

The good thing about The Brink is that you laugh out loud. The bad thing is that it is not so unlikely. [Full Review in Spanish]

The Brink is so funny, so inventive-and so fearless in what it has to say about geopolitics-that watching it would be pure pleasure were the events it depicts not so uncomfortably close to the perilous reality of the world in which we live.

Audience Reviews for The Brink: Season 1

Great casting, fantastic comedic timing, and actual progression with stakes and even death. No this is not a world changing comedy, but it's far above the average that's on TV right now. If you liked Better Off Ted then you'll love this show. The comedy isn't based in unrealistic slapstick or people being terrible at their jobs while playing passive aggressive baseball. The feel is somewhere between dark comedy and Aaron Sorkin pacing.

Tried really hard to give this a fair shot but only lasted 12 minutes. Glad I bailed because this is extremely weak!

One of the smartest, funniest shows on the air. Great writing, directing, acting across the board.

I give the brink 5 stars! *****I love the diplomatic political mockery its a blast super talenTed cast and writeres director and producers it should be nominated

The disparity between the critics' score and the audience score tells the tale - this was a fun, topical, commentary-laden romp that was made for the people, critics be damned. I took away one star for Pablo Schreiber's biceps, which seem to have replaced any and all acting ability.

Love this show. Smart, hilarious, broad but incisive. I can't believe the critics don't love it. One of the best shows on TV

Very entertaining. Good production values. Spot on acting. More lol's than I expected but well plotted too.

Best show I've seen in a long time

A lot of potential is wasted on a political satire with nothing to say.

Great series....fantastic sets.....really professional special effects.....writers actually seem to know something about national security matters. Love the music selections at the end.
