The risk of World War III is real, thanks to a paranoid Pakistan army general who gains control of the country and its formidable nuclear arsenal. The global crisis sets into motion a risky plan that entangles three disparate, desperate Americans -- womanizing, often inebriated Secretary of State Walter Larson, lowly Foreign Service officer Alex Talbot, and supreme yet compromised Navy fighter pilot Zeke Tilson. Co-executive produced by Jerry Weintraub, Roberto Benabib and Jay Roach, the dark comedy series stars Tim Robbins ("Mystic River") as Larson, Jack Black ("School of Rock") as Talbot, and Pablo Schreiber ("The Wire") as Tilson, with additional cast members including Aasif Mandvi, Maribeth Monroe, Eric Ladin, Esai Morales and Carla Gugino.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Brink avoids disaster thanks to the game efforts of a talented cast, but they - and viewers - deserve political satire with a sharper bite.

I found the Dr. Strangelove-like series, which was created by brothers Roberto and Kim Benabib, consistently entertaining, if not hysterical, and plotted with care, so that three distinct story lines dovetail nicely. Go to Full Review
Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times 06/22/2015
[It] keeps generally on the right side of things by virtue of the excellence and exuberance of the performances, which add flesh where needed; by moving fast enough to keep ahead of your second thoughts; and by spreading the ridiculousness around. Go to Full Review

The Brink has no backbone, which happens to be the one thing that satire requires. Go to Full Review

This is not Veep, nor is it a funny version of 24 - The Brink lies somewhere beneath the two, and yet, manages to capture neither, all while being an unfunny mess of sex and "cultural jokes". Go to Full Review

The good thing about The Brink is that you laugh out loud. The bad thing is that it is not so unlikely. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

In a way the audience who should watch this documentary immediately are progressives, because it is a fascinating, unnerving portrait that goes right into the heart of the beast. Go to Full Review

02/10/2020 funny, satirical and in a way shows the sad truth See more 05/06/2019 Great casting, fantastic comedic timing, and actual progression with stakes and even death. No this is not a world changing comedy, but it's far above the average that's on TV right now. If you liked Better Off Ted then you'll love this show. The comedy isn't based in unrealistic slapstick or people being terrible at their jobs while playing passive aggressive baseball. The feel is somewhere between dark comedy and Aaron Sorkin pacing. See more 01/23/2019 Tried really hard to give this a fair shot but only lasted 12 minutes. Glad I bailed because this is extremely weak! See more 06/17/2018 One of the smartest, funniest shows on the air. Great writing, directing, acting across the board. See more 04/07/2018 I give the brink 5 stars! *****I love the diplomatic political mockery its a blast super talenTed cast and writeres director and producers it should be nominated See more 07/17/2016 The disparity between the critics' score and the audience score tells the tale - this was a fun, topical, commentary-laden romp that was made for the people, critics be damned. I took away one star for Pablo Schreiber's biceps, which seem to have replaced any and all acting ability. See more Read all reviews
