The Buccaneers still has moments of appealing vim, but it leaves a sneaking suspicion that other shows are capable of doing what it does with much more assurance and wit.  Go to Full Review

If you like Bridgerton -- and can stomach the goopiest of girl-power feminism -- you’ll likely like this almost as much. Go to Full Review

The Buccaneers remains a fun and unpredictable watch—even when you’re tearing your hair out over these young, often flighty characters’ choices. Go to Full Review

The commitment to telling strong stories that empower the female cast is what made The Buccaneers rise in its second season, with high drama, and lasting consequences. Go to Full Review

Season 2 begins with a strong and thoroughly compelling premiere that gorgeously sets the stage, but that’s unfortunately where its sophomore season charm ends. Go to Full Review

Overall, Season 2 of The Buccaneers is a fitting continuation of its first season and successfully manages to explore the existing themes introduced in season 1, but also introduces new and exciting ones in order to keep the story feeling fresh and new. Go to Full Review

Michelle N @mnovick1027 Sep 28, 2026 Spoiler alert: I loved the first season, but Season 2 was such a disappointment. I honestly don’t know what the writers were thinking. My biggest issue was how unbelievable so many of the relationships became. Guy sleeps with Paloma once and then marries her, even though she knows he’s in love with Nan? Lizzy sleeps with Nan’s husband and then continues acting like her best friend? And somehow we’re supposed to root for Lizzy and Theo? It felt like the writers kept throwing more drama at us without making any of it believable. Everyone falls in love too easily, people betray each other and move on like it’s nothing, and suddenly every storyline is a disaster. I don’t need characters to make good choices, but their choices have to make sense. Season 1 made me care about these characters. Season 2 made me dislike almost all of them. What a waste of a great cast and what could have been a really good show. See more Seth S @sethsmovies Sep 21, 2026 I watch a lot of tv but this season was one I really wish could be undone and have the show runners replaced because of how poorly written of arcs this had, especially for an Apple TV show. I have a wide tolerance for writing decisions but there’s a couple objective “rules” for when I’ll decide I truly hate the way something was written and that’s when a character was clearly intended to be root-worthy but you actually end up hating them and that’s how the show made me feel towards Nan and Guy. A writers job is supposed to guide the audience towards how they feel about a story so when they want us to choose Guy over Theo but they did none of the work to get us there, they’ve failed. More irritating is I’ve never seen a show quite so directly destroy possibilities of redemption so demonstrably. I’m not sure if they misunderstood audiences were never rooting for Guy… because they wrote Theo and Nan to have more common interests than Guy and Nan. They didn’t write a Sophie’s choice. See more Corina W @Corina743 Sep 10, 2026 The friendships between the women are probably my favorite part. Some of the romantic drama can be frustrating, especially when everyone starts making terrible decisions, but I still kept wanting to see what happened next. See more Kitty B @blackkitty Aug 24, 2026 I think I enjoyed the second season even more because the characters finally feel like they're making their own choices. There is still plenty of romance and drama, but the friendships are just as interesting to me now. See more Nelda S @RT72148374 Aug 8, 2026 Season 2 completely lost the shimmer that made me love the first one. The characters felt off and the writing became chaotic. See more Grace B @Gracy757 Aug 5, 2026 This season was even more enjoyable because the characters felt more mature and the friendships became just as important as the romances. I loved the costumes, the atmosphere, and the feeling that everyone was trying to find their own place in the world. See more Read all reviews
