Based on real accounts and inspired by contemporary events, this French spy thriller follows the daily lives and missions of members of the country's external security service -- France's equivalent of the CIA. It focuses on intelligence officer Guillaume Debailly, code named "Malotru," who is mysteriously recalled to Paris after spending six years under cover in Syria. As he tries to re-connect with his daughter, ex-wife and colleagues, Debailly risks everything by resuming contact with his married lover, Nadia, who might have secrets of her own that jeopardize the agent.

D S @DSONDOR Mar 11 It is complicated to summarize five seasons into one review but suffice to say, it was an outstanding beginning. By season 5, every episode was some guy having sex and then everyone upset, worried, and angry about how their agents keep getting off target from their assignment and how little gets done. At least with the CIA, every day another murder, another defenestration, a double cross, a payoff, the DGSE or French Intelligence gets all offended by the nuances of their 'Legend's' personal issues. By season five I was just slogging through to get to the end. It wasn't bad but The Agency with Michael Fassbender is oh so much better that its almost embarrassing by comparison. The Agency is the adults in the room. This is child's play, sorry to say. And every time I see Mathieu Kassovitz all I think of is the 5th Element when he says to Bruce Willis "GIMME DA CASH!" "Nice hat." "Thank you." See more Peter L @Lankage 04/05/2025 I just discovered this series in 2025. I binged it over the course of a few months. I do think it was one of the best TV series I have ever seen. Up there with "The Wire" in my humble opinion. That being said I was profoundly saddened and disappointed by the ending. I guess that is just my sentimental self speaking and the people who created and wrote the show were not interested in a "hollywood ending." The wreckage of the lives these people led (because of the important work that they did) was evident. I just thought that there was another way to end the show without going nuclear. I loved the Nadia/Malotru relationship so much. Maybe because I am a hopeless romantic and their love felt so real. They had endured so much. To end the show that way for its fans was just cruel in my opinion. That is why I gave this season only 4 stars. But overall, I would say that season 1-5 deserves 5 stars as a viewing experience. See more Aaron M @RT04058057 05/10/2024 Best spy show ever. See more Andy H @andyhh 06/06/2023 This french espionage thriller series is one of the best spy thriller series ever. If anyone is reading this, you should NOT watch the last episode of the last season and NOT read anything about it. That is almost impossible, I understand! But the series finale is probably the worst series finale, hopefully, ever. Its nuclear winter. It annihilates everything, especially what the whole series was anchored in. The Lost finale was bad, creating a tainted legacy. The Battlestar Galactica series finale was by far the worst episode of the series, it was really really lame. Don't watch this series. You will love it, but the series finale will make you hate it for the rest of your life. Its because the series is so damn good, that creating a final episode that basically just destroys and annilahates the core thread of the series, its blood, I will never forgive them. Stay away! You have been warned! See more 09/20/2021 I wasn't as annoyed with the ending as many. I thought all those people sitting at the dinner table in the dream was interesting. "He brought out a drop of goodness in us and that's when he got us.." What I keep wondering about is the very opening scene of season 5 shows Malotru in a room with something wrapped around his head like he is injured and then he walks over to see JJA who is also severely injured/sick and hooked up to machines and he rips the cords out and starts choking him. Then it says "9 months earlier..." or whatever. I figured we'd see that at the end...but it never ended up happening. See more Stephen G @RT76499974 03/26/2021 One of the best tv series I've ever seen. Constantly intriguing as all sorts of games are played and dramas unfold, with powerful plot lines, superb performances and at times incredible tension. Season 5 brings the series to a fitting, superb end. I'd say that I wanted even more, but this last season tied it all up so well that the producers were right to limit it to five seasons. The only series to which I've given five stars on RT - or for which I've bothered to review all its seasons. See more Read all reviews
