The South Side of Chicago carries daily danger, and the smallest and simplest of decisions can have life or death consequences for the residents. Life continues as the kids prep for school and their parents shuffle off to work. The young adults of the area are trying to scrape a living for themselves, while the elders sit on their front porches and observe the goings on. The South Side has the potential to crush dreams, and this coming-of-age series focuses on Kevin, a preteen who embraces the normal rites of childhood, Brandon, who makes a leap of faith to succeed in love and life with Jerrika, Emmett, who seeks guidance from his mother, and Ronnie, who is a drifter struggling to be loved. All of them are linked together by sheer coincidence as they seek redemption.

In its sixth season, The Chi has a lot of life history to examine with its characters as individuals, as couples, and as members of a larger community that no matter what happens will always offer them a version of home. Go to Full Review

Nakia N @Knew42 09/15/2023 The manufactured relationships are just weird. I get it that the teens are all friends and hangout, but the thrown together relationships between all the adult characters where they are all out of nowhere are the best of friends, hanging out, going to each others parties, weddings, having therapy sessions together, talking about their lives just seems super forced. I've watched every season, when, where, and how did all these close relationships form? It's like in season 5 they decided to make all the adult characters into a clique of friends the same as the teen characters. The way noone batted an eye at Victor's coming out was very unrealistic. When did black men in Chicago become so progressive? This show has ventured so far from what it originally was, it's wild. See more Ra G @RT92921323 08/26/2023 Season 6 so far has been ok- I love the growth and development of some of the characters- Vic, and Darnell have grown tremendously . It would be nice to see Tiffany grow up- her characters like mentality is that of a child- and why has Keishas character turned into a mega b*tch, one of the best qualities of Keishas character was her ability to show a more sensitive, gentle and rational side- that doesn't go out the window because baby Ronnie is here— and Jemma, mercy- she looks like she's 35 years old- the natural hair/air fro worked for her- and it seems that she's gone from a cultured intellect- to an unmotivated ignorant leech- making demands on Myeisha as it relates to her music- when she's not doing anything to improve herself- the whole situation with Jemma is very weird.. her character has definitely changed for the worse.—And PLEASE FIND VIC A DIFFERENT LOVE INTEREST. There is no chemistry with Fatima and Vic- logic would have suggested that he have a short reprieve from dating since he was literally just about to propose to his previous love interest-Alternatively—Amiyah Scott, India Moore, or Machaela Rodriguez would have been better choices than Fatima- sorry- not sorry. Finally Douda- his character seems to be stuck on stupid- it's pretty lame at this point- the life and the women- and Rosalyn- and Tracy can we please kill them both off already— completely USELESS CHARACTERS. I hope this Season gets better- if not, please feel free to take this over to the next season- unless this is the series finale. See more Read all reviews
