News & Interviews for The Circle: Season 1
The flattening confusion of social media can make this setup into a game, but it's hardly a show. It's a bunch of reality TV players in search of a drama.
At the end of the day, The Circle is more of the junk food TV that's been clogging airwaves and streaming services for over a decade now, but a stranger undercurrent lies within...
This brilliantly cast and surprisingly addictive reality show puts a new twist on the old popularity-contest format.
The intensity of their connection is infectious, and they pick up like old friends at a reunion.
Audiences that don't expect too much from "The Circle" certainly will not be disappointed.
isolates its contestants, illustrates our depressing tendency to superficially judge each other, and has just enough flashes of charm, humor, insight, and humanity to keep us staring at our screens to make a giant corporation money
What's been most fun about watching this show is seeing, in real time, the players decide for themselves what it takes to charm strangers and get the furthest in The Circle.
Essentially, The Circle is a thought-provoking social experiment disguised as trashy reality TV. The results are alternately hilarious, disturbing, heartwarming, and revelatory.
It's an American version of a show with the same name that started in the U.K. in 2018. And it is perfect.
Surprisingly relaxing and life-affirming. Like in any other reality TV show designed to expose human foibles, it has its cringe moments and villains. But the gentler, more benevolent elements of human nature rise to the top like cream.
Audience Reviews for The Circle: Season 1
May 11, 2021It was so bad, kinda corney show, structure seemed childish and rushed. The fact that after browsing through Netflix I picked this to watch, makes me think about my subscription.
May 08, 2021Season 1 was so much better than season 2. The second season felt more "produced" and catty where as the first season it was hard decisions for people to make because you genuinely liked everyone but had your core alliance. While I liked that the second season everyone was actually playing the game and that was recognized at the end, all the negativity left me with an icky feeling.
Apr 26, 2021Cringing, awful...Was running out of shows to watch and stumbled across this. Watched 3 episode before I quit. This show is cringing to watch. The people do make a good effort in making it interesting and few are entertaining. they are bit over the top energetic and attention starved actors for people just locked up in a room all day long. The constant "hey circle send message hey circle send that", just makes it unbearable to watch.
Apr 19, 2021I really resisted watching this but with a lack of options decided to give it a try. It was more enjoyable than I thought it would be, mainly because the people in the competition were more interesting than I thought they'd be. The whole premise of not being who you say you are also ended up being more interesting than I thought it would be.
Dec 24, 2020Guilty pleasure. Fun! I never watch most reality TV competition shows about people voting each other off for various reasons, but for some reason this appealed to me. I actually found the contestants/characters of course totally narcissistic but also very amusing and not completely braindead or total dirt bags like I think (I may be wrong) a lot of people on these shows usually are. Don't look for any intellectual stimulation but not a horrible waste of time.
Sep 14, 2020awful, cringe, worst show... recommend to watch horrors than this crap
May 22, 2020i was more interested in this that i initially though!!
May 03, 2020Complete crap. Fake, dumb, stereotypical. Just no.
Apr 25, 2020It's like watching a social experiment as torture. Still enjoyable.
Apr 21, 20202020 #229: THE CIRCLE (NETFLIX) I was apprehensive about this but my manager told me to watch it and I'm glad I did. Once you get past the first few eps it's really engaging. You get to know these people. You hate some of them and others you desperately root for. Like the delicious, charming and loyal Joey Sasso and ed eason isn't too bad either. 4.5/5
