Critic Reviews for The Closer Season 7
All Critics (14) | Top Critics (9) | Fresh (11) | Rotten (3)
There were a number of lighthearted episodes that never quite worked. But the dramatic material was, and still is, formidable.
Good start to The End and a major twist.
The Closer is still the same fast-paced cop drama. It's just that now we also have the subtext of finding out what road we take to the close.
The show's increasing silliness had begun to verge on self-parody -- not the right drift for a vehicle that had won Sedgwick a drama Emmy.
The intensity of the storyline and of Brenda's final few acts were jaw-dropping.
This is Sedgwick's show, a star vehicle all the way.
There are many reasons The Closer has been a reliable hit for TNT since its 2005 premiere: decent scripts, a winning ensemble of character actors and, most of all, having Kyra Sedgwick in the lead role.
As a series, its quality and sizable audience helped put TNT and its "We Know Drama" mantra on the map,... For that and seven seasons of entertainment, we should all say Thank you, thank you so much.
The show has just kept getting better as justice has become more personal for Brenda.
Although a little too comic for some tastes the past couple of seasons, it is still watchable drama with a great cast.
Frankly, I love The Closer, the cops are like family to me after all these years.
What would be an admirable message suffers for a lack of nuance.
Audience Reviews for The Closer: Season 7

Dec 09, 2020I began watching this recently on Start TV, as I hadn't seen it on TNT. I much prefer "Major Crimes." Too much shtick in Chief Johnson's character: the ever-present over large handbag. (Who carries their purse into the interview room?) She is manipulative to a fault, lies even to Fritz. I do realize that lying is part of her job, but why lie to her partner. She isn't particularly nice to Fritz. Traffic rules don't apply to her: she left the scene of an accident because she had a "murder" investigation. Too dramatic, too many mini-tantrums. That said, I do like the other characters, am pleased that most of the moved over to "Major Crimes."

Aug 26, 2019Ok, two glasses of wine. My wife and I have been binging on The Closer for the last (month). Kyra Sedgwick is good, J.K. Simmons is good and the writers are good. Have been addicted to DCI Banks, Shetland, and now The Closer. Also dug Goliath but done with Suits. Stay with the good stuff.

Aug 28, 2014This is a perfect law and order serial. Kyra Sedgwick is brilliant i this role and the supporting cast is also perfect. I've been binge watching it all over again. And it is just as good as the first time. I couldn't recommend this more strongly.
