Will T Dec 5 I admit I'm bias because I think Noel Fielding can do no wrong. So, yes, I love it. And you can't tell me that, when coming up with the idea, they weren't saying, "You remember that song (and video) by Adam Ant, Stand and Deliver? Wouldn't that make a great comedy series? And Noel Fielding would be the perfect Adam Ant for the 21st century!" Cheers and applause around the table and bam you have a very funny, quirky show! See more John W. See more Michael Antony A Feb 3 Mikey’s TV Review: The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin (2024) Directed by Ben Palmer (The Inbetweeners), Turpin is an historical comedy TV series co-created, co-written and starring Noel Fielding (The Mighty Boosh, The IT Crowd) as the infamous titular character… Joined by a host of British comedy and drama stalwarts, Fielding has assembled a strong and game cast that includes; Duayne Boachie, Ellie White, Marc Wootton, Dolly Wells, Mark Heap, Geoff McGivern, Joe Wilkinson, Hugh Bonneville and Tamsin Greig (forming the main ensemble), and scene stealing guest stars such as David Threlfall, Greg Davies, Simon Farnaby, Diane Morgan and Jessica Hynes! Annoyingly, for such a talented group this really should be a lot funnier than it is. Yes, there are moments of brilliance throughout and its off/kilter / occassionaly silly Pythonesque humour (together with a scattershot sketch format within the main story arc), many will find plenty to smile about. It just doesn’t quite gel… Most comedy shows need time to find their feet and Blackadder (1983-1989) still remains the high benchmark for historical comedy. Turpin shoots slightly wide of the mark, but with a little more precision might yet hit the target.
