The Dark doesn’t exactly break the mould, then — but Donnelly does well with her “brilliant detective with a dark past who does things her way” cookie-cutter character, bringing just the right amount of snark and haunted glare to the role. I said I'd be delighted to be wrong because I love a twist I don't see coming. As it turned out I was right and also wrong - so I was very pleased there was an extra twist plus a door opened for a follow up. I worried about the cats throughout but needn't have done - whew. At the risk of a spoiler I would say that the description of the killer's profile didn't really reflect the person in one particular regard but I shall leave that opaque. It was a decent crime thriller with a good cast. Stella Gonet always delivers and her presence gave the piece some normality. I was sorry to lose one character who wasn't fully developed but promising. Good scenery. It certainly gets dark very suddenly in Scotland! See more Read all reviews
