Sometimes I watch it just to look at the craftsmanship, but the story itself is incredible, and surprisingly dark at times. The skeksis can be so brutal that it’s terrifying. I think a lot of people get put off by the puppets when they first turn it on that they don’t give it a chance but once you get used to the style, it’s actually one of the best fantasy shows ever made, I loved the old dark crystal, but the way they brought the world to life in this show brought tears to my eyes. The plot of this movie made me cry multiple times as well actually! And if you’ve seen the 1980’s dark crystal you know that this plot line can only be tragic! It’s a shame we won’t get to see everything that leads up to their wording becoming the apocalyptic hellscape of the 1980’s dark crystal movie and if you haven’t already seen the original, I highly suggest watching it first. It really adds an extra layer of understanding to the show. This show being canceled was a tragedy!The amount of profits that Netflix has made have paid for this show countless times, expensive or not, before Netflix and Amazon took over TV and movies they used to finish what they started, they have zero respect for the fans anymore, everything is about pure analytics. They make so much mindless garbage and then cancel everything good if it doesn’t make them 10 billion dollars like a marvel movie (basically if it didn’t appeal to the NPC’s it gets canceled) who needs to make good TV when you can make 400 poorly animated TV shows designed to entertain literal babies. The craftsmanship is undeniable: the puppetry, sets, and creature designs are stunning and made with obvious care. From a technical standpoint, the show is beautifully executed. The story feels overly drawn out, taking too long to reach moments that truly matter. Unlike the film, which balanced mystery and momentum, the series often feels sluggish, making it harder to stay emotionally invested. At times, I was more aware that I was watching puppets rather than being immersed in the world. The voice casting is also hit or miss, with certain choices pulling me out of the experience rather than enhancing it. Ultimately, Age of Resistance isn’t bad—it’s well made and easy to watch—but it lacks the magic that made the original timeless.
