Critic reviews for Thou Shalt Not Kill
There are no niceties to this stark tale, which interweaves snippets of the lives of three men -- the killer, his taxi driver victim and the idealistic defense attorney who fails to save the condemned man from the gallows.
Decalogue Five is perhaps the most celebrated of the films. It is almost certainly the most artful.
Krzysztof Kieslowski's treatment of "Thou shalt not kill" affirms the preciousness of life and stands squarely against murder by individuals or by the state.
In both a micro and macro sense, then, Decalogue V isn't a call for justice, but for grace.
