As dark as it is, it's hard to turn away from this docuseries that looks and feels more like a scripted drama. The Deep End is not just a peek behind the scenes of the life of a spiritual influencer; it's a social commentary on human behavior. Go to Full Review

The Deep End is a Feeform limited series that sheds a light on the cult-like following of Teal Swan. While interesting at times, it should have been a film. Go to Full Review

Gabriel P 12/31/2024 Exposed obvious abusive, bullying, and manipulative relational dynamics from Swan towards her inner circle, and its self-reinforcing nature within the inner circle. When you state up front that you’re not going to create a safe space, it opens the door for manipulative tactics to take on the appearance of “authenticity”, when it’s really just supporting a lot of unchecked abusive behavior. I hope people truly interested in healing stay away and find better qualified healers and practitioners. See more Nick W 12/04/2024 Despite what some folks are saying here, the scenes that impacted me most were the unedited long form conversations between Teal and her students and her inner circle. They speak for themselves and paint a truly concerning picture of Teal’s seemingly unconscious and shadowy aspects. I don’t doubt she has helped many people and has genuine wisdom in moments, but it seems we are in the age of self-proclaimed teachers who garner a massive following and aren’t screened by any reputable lineage or mentor. This can, and seemingly does in this case, lead to an abuse of power and harm caused by overlooking of growing shadow aspects the teacher has supposedly “transcended.” This is a fantastic documentary - it is moody, absorbing, and utterly fascinating. I can see that the film team did take some editing liberties as they stitch together the story, but I didn’t find this misleading - you’ll see the same in most documentaries or docuseries. I admire the directors for a brave capturing of a phenomenon that I believe is much bigger than just Teal Swan. See more Tiffany S 09/18/2024 Very well done! Worth the time to watch. Very interesting. See more Justine V 07/24/2024 Typically, documentaries like this don’t dig deeply enough into the psychological ecosystem that sustains a cult of personality. This was masterfully done, beautiful and disturbing. I grew up around new-age gurus. I know just how dangerous it can be when people sever the connection with their self in favor of following another human into an oblivion of emptiness. They’ll all tell you you’re divine, while making you afraid to stand in your own divinity alone. See more 08/11/2022 It was nicely shot and edited, but as a documentary it was presented too dramatic, much like a soap opera. Juliana was forced against her will to live in a community in the US, Teal Swan is apparently bossy in her home and some people just don't like her, this can only mean it is a cult. How dare a beaituful woman be successful... See more Coby N @Coby00 07/18/2022 A front-row seat to the discourse and manipulation inside a cult. See more Read all reviews
