Critic Reviews for The Equalizer Season 1
All Critics (27) | Top Critics (13) | Fresh (18) | Rotten (9)
Not that believable or even that compelling, but at least CBS is trying something different.
There's potential there for a compelling Robin Hood-esque fable that could be exciting. Alas, it's CBS, and time will tell whether the show's creators and showrunners, Andrew Marlowe and Terri Miller, will exploit any far more intriguing possibilities.
What about Latifah? As always, perfectly fine, although now and then she gives off just the slightest vibe that she has to fight the urge to roll her eyes. She's far too good an actress not to know bunkum when she sees it.
I like the show best when it abandons righteousness and goes for camp, as when McCall pretends to be a chauffeur in order to duplicate her passenger's cell phone.
CBS is really good at this sort of by-the-numbers genre offering - and, in this case, that should give "The Equalizer" a fighting chance to make its mark.
It's heartfelt and engaging. This has a lot to do with Queen Latifah, who's a joy to watch. She's funny and sweet, while also badass.
Why does Queen Latifah's equalizer kick ass? Because she is Queen Latifah. My god. What more do you want?
My complaints don't mean that I don't like the show. As I said before, I love watching Latifah in almost anything, so I'll at least stick around for a couple more episodes...
Queen Latifah was one of the sole reasons to watch Star, but there is a lot to love about The Equalizer, and it largely comes down to the solid casting.
The actors may be different, but the scripts never change.
Although the pilot is formulaic in the extreme,it's a formula that works, and the results are interesting. If nothing else, Queen Latifah's natural magnetism hooked me long enough to want to see her help at least two or three more of New York's lost souls
Crime-fighter reboot has strong lead, predictable plots.
Audience Reviews for The Equalizer: Season 1

5d agoThere are so many shows already exploring the dystopian future of an uncertain now. All you ever hear on the news are stories of how unfair or uncertain our current reality is. I watch this show RELIGIOUSLY because I NEED to believe in a future where black women can be heroes, where good guys can win, and where justice can be served. ESPECIALLY now. The news is already full of uncertainty and injustice -- I watch it and feel defeated. I don't need more of that in my entertainment. I already know what reality looks like and feels like. I don't need this show to be anything other than what it is. It's PERFECT. I watch this and feel inspired to fight another day. Thank you for putting this show together.

5d agoI want to like this show. I love Queen Latifah as an actor and there are occasional good moments, however, it is just so totally unbelievable. She just doesn't seem to have any special skills to pull off what she does on the show. I know that some suspension of disbelief is required but really...? I know that I'm losing interest when the episodes start accumulating on my DVR. After the third episode, I'm ready to give up.

6d agoUnsure how anyone can watch this, nothing like the movie. Network TV is out of touch with customers. This show should be Cancelled this season. CBS could have done so much better.
-
6d agoIf I were Denzel, I'd be pissed that this show seems to go out of the way to wreck the premise.

Apr 03, 2021The Equalizer is like the Lethal Weapon series except not a disaster behind the scenes. Go watch it!!
-
Apr 02, 2021It's good that a woman with talent (and sass) is the primary actor for the franchise. Latifa makes her character tough yet aware, tender yet firm. She's bad assed yet street savvy.

Mar 30, 2021lacração total, esta mais para parodia
