The Event has an intriguing premise with a tantalizing story, but the chance for the show to lose focus is high.

Critic Reviews for The Event Season 1

The Event is such a blur of shadowy operatives, dubious motives, cryptic dialogue and mystifying time shifts that by the end, many viewers may be not so much curious as simply confused.

Do you really want to go through that Heroes thing again?

The "Event'' premiere operates like a well-oiled machine.

The Event, shrouded in mystery by necessity, is one of those shows-a whodunit spun into a big whatsit built to keep the audience scratching for answers, solving for X-files.

Lots of eye candy, mystery, intrigue, questions, and superlative production values.

"The Event" is no show -- it's filler loud, explosive filler material that tries to convince you its interesting by stealing something from a sci-fi novel and insisting that it is. It's not.

It seems rude to extend an invitation to so many people without delivering an event.

What's ultimately frustrating about The Event is not the lack of answers or the dreadfully lazy characterizations. It's the insistence that the plot somehow taps into something that's happening right now in the United States.

If you can tolerate the overly histrionic pilot and are curious enough to find out what "the event" actually is, of which there is no mention in the pilot, then NBC has a Lost-esque show on its hands. Count me out.

The Event comes across as enigmatic without being engaging.

Audience Reviews for The Event: Season 1

Though short-lived, NBC's sci-fi series The Event delivered a thrilling and action-packed adventure. The show follows several characters whose stories intertwine as a terrorist name Thomas attempts to force the President to free a group of detainees from another world who are being held at a secret U.S. prison. The storytelling is a bit problematic with time jumps and switches to seemingly unrelated character stories. But by mid-season this is tightened up and becomes more fluid and engaging. The show also does an impressive job at creating interesting characters that have some ambiguity, and switch between hero and villain as the season unfolds. Still, there are a number of failed subplot and mysteries that are never answered or don't add much to the overall story arc. While it was problematic at times, The Event ultimately proved to be an exciting and compelling series worthy of more than the one season it got.

Shame these stupid networks cancelled this masterpiece of a show

After an incredibly promising first three episodes, with one of the most intriguing premises I've seen for a show in a while, it's a boring uneventful show. I've read many reviews that say it's like 24, Lost, and more that I can't remember. It's like those except not good. The show is like a bad episode of 24. And way too many flashbacks. They would be fine in a lesser amount, but they're giving us way too much backstory.

I really think this series was pretty cool, but, after 8 seasons of 24 and 10 seasons of Supernatural, this show seems pretty weird. Why do you have to mess up with Aliens!
