The Expanse reminds us that life is fragile and power is fleeting, yet at the same time celebrates the ingenuity of mankind. Proper sci-fi drama done brilliantly well.

This moral ambiguity has always been The Expanse's strength, bolstered by a great cast and damned good special effects.

These episodes are epic.

The Expanse's keen understanding of history and politics, combined with its relatively low technology level, has allowed the show to feel about as realistic as science fiction can get.

The Expanse is not Star Wars or Star Trek but something unique and remains the benchmark for science fiction on television.

Season 5 of The Expanse is great TV, and it's great because it makes you think as much as it makes you feel.

Even with the protomolecule saga relatively sidelined this season, "The Expanse" draws so much strength from exposing how fragile an expansive society like this is.

Five seasons in, The Expanse is cruising.

If you can look past some wooden dialogue and stiff acting, however, the new season might be the show's best as an adventure-drama delivery system - the creators have only gotten better at pacing and packaging a taut conspiracy thriller.

I was concerned that Season 5 would feel rushed as the writers race towards to finish line. Thankfully, at least in this first batch of episodes, the pacing is excellent, with no signs of hastiness to worry about.

This show is just as riveting as it's always been.

The Expanse is the most intricately complex show--full of political machinations and space booms--on television. It is unstoppable watching. You just can't get enough and S5 is the best of everything The Expanse has always been.

It's also wonderful to see Wes Chatham get to play Amos in such disparate environments-our favorite muscle man goes on a series of excellent adventures, including quietly self-reflective ones.

Season 5, happily, makes up for that enthusiasm, striking the right balance between organic fervor and genuine meaning midway through the opening trio of episodes and sticking to it for the rest of the run.
