Paul is a geeky teenager who pretty much keeps to himself and, except to his best friend, Mac, only talks when he needs to. He has never tried to fit in because he knows that he is different -- he has visions of a terrifying apocalypse and can see the spirits of dead people, called Fades, and he becomes embroiled in a battle between the living and the dead. When one Fade crosses over into the "real" world, he goes on a rampage, killing humans and causing damage to the world around them. Paul and his companions, including Mac and Paul's twin sister Anna, must find a way to stop the rest of the Fades from destroying the world.

Critics Consensus

The Fades succeeds as a genuinely unnerving horror chronicle, striking a fine balance between gruesome set-pieces and likable characters.

Kaluuya is a treat as cheerful, dorky, motor-mouthed schoolboy Mac, the best pal of a bed-wetting protagonist who sees dead people. Written by Jack Thorne and starring the likes of Natalie Dormer, it's good fun. Go to Full Review

After sampling three hours, letting the show fade from the DVR shouldn't haunt many. Go to Full Review

Is anyone a fan of the "Soon you shall understand" school of vague, portentous dialogue? Didn't think so. Go to Full Review

It's a good show and it's always fun to see some of your favorite actors before they got famous. 'The Fades' is not the worst horror drama to spend a Saturday with. Go to Full Review

The show is genuinely frightening and plenty gory -- even the opening theme sets your teeth on edge. Go to Full Review

Unfortunately, The Fades only ran for one season, but it's everything you want in your horror: oodles and oodles of it. Go to Full Review

Matthew C Aug 8 Fantastic show. BBC needs to get a second season going.... See more Hawn E Jul 7 Underrated Gem: The Fades Deserves a Comeback I just recently discovered The Fades, and honestly, I’m baffled that it flew so far under the radar. Had I known about it sooner, I absolutely would’ve watched it when it first aired. The series delivers a gripping storyline, mixing supernatural horror with sharp writing and emotional depth. The characters are not only memorable—they feel real, layered, and worth investing in. What’s most frustrating is that it ends on a major cliffhanger. Just as the story really starts to unfold, it leaves us hanging, with so much potential left unexplored. It’s rare to find a show with this much originality and heart, and it deserves far more recognition than it got. To whoever has the power: bring it back, please. There’s still so much more story to tell. See more Richard B Mar 25 One of the best TV series I have seen. The breakout role for Daniel Kaluuya. Excellent acting, well written scripts. The whole world setting has an atmospheric vibe that sets the whole tone. It is almost criminal that the BBC didn't commision a second series. Features Natalie Dormer about the same time as she appeared in Game of Thrones. And the brilliant Tom Ellis of Lucifer and Miranda. See more Rebecca O Mar 12 Absolutely chilling series and am bitterly disappointed in BBCs lack of advertisement for this as I have only discovered it 14 years after the fact. Seems a lot of shows got cancelled without a chance for a second season due to people just not knowing about it at the time. See more XxBaByLaDyXx C 11/22/2024 I really enjoyed watching the first season which I just finished watching if I knew about it before when it was released I would have watched it then shame you didn’t set a second season to be made based on it not having enough ratings most people probably didn’t know about it then like I didn’t would have loved to have seen a few more seasons of this oh well See more Mary R 06/06/2024 There are some great actors in this show. I just rewashed it. And once again, found myself thinking Daniel Kaluuya stole the show. Nope isn't my type of movie, but I watched it because of him. I would love to see him headline a movie or streaming show that takes advantage of his timing. I suspect he could do anything. See more Read all reviews
