The Fall's most remarkable achievement will be if it turns out to be the first show of many to present a new normal for women on television.

As it did in the first season, Anderson's self-possessed hauteur serves the series exceedingly well.

Despite its flaws, this climax unfolded in riveting fashion.

Small quibbles for an otherwise compelling drama.

The second season (despite its tendency to lean into the show's pulpier sensibilities) keeps the torch burning by drawing Gibson and Spector directly into each other's orbits.

Season 2 is great TV too - it's just not quite as great as Season 1.

Apr 3, 2019 | Full Review…

The Fall more than sticks its landing here as it eloquently finishes what it has to say with an absolutely masterful, unexpected ending that is all sorts of brilliant and the perfect piece of commentary on consequences.

A chilling return.

Writer/director Allan Cubitt seems to have found the ideal pace for his narrative, which moves with a kind of spectral stateliness.

That she can make you feel protective towards her one minute and want to shake her the next is testament to Anderson's talent.

Aug 10, 2017 | Full Review…

The Fall treats its female characters as more than caricatures... They're not just one-note plot devices but real, full-bodied characters that add something to this show.

Audience Reviews for The Fall: Season 2

A brilliantly scripted and well paced show. I don't think I've seen anything quite like it where the focus lies in the details as much as on the main plot. What makes it so unique is that the scenes are not afraid to explore the happenings between main story beats - e.g. patiently waiting out when a character walks up several flights of stairs or someone goes to get a pair of rubber gloves and puts it on whilst visibly observing a crime scene - and you can almost see the thought being formed in their gaze what's the most important piece of evidence to inspect and where to start. Car rides in other shows often end up shown briefly at departure, arrival or just being implied - here they often touch on the journey itself, building up rapport between characters and viewers in a way that many tv shows would simply see as a waste of time. When a long searched piece of evidence/victim has been found often the scene doesn't cuts away to a later point where you get told the lab results - it follows through on details and happenings right there, giving you a better sense on timelines, how quick/slow the information flows in an investigation. The captivating realism and the production's 'magic' manifests in those scenes and it's truly a joy to watch and marvel at each episode. If I had to nitpick, the news reports happening in the show are way to cheesy and feel fabricated and fake but it gets the point across in how the media covers a serial killer story. It's a must watch for sure. I'm so glad I took the time to check it out on netflix!

Again like the first season it has really good moments. However I feel it takes far too long to tell the story and ultimately is at times a frustrating watch in my opinion.

It would be easy to feel disappointment after such a brilliant first series, but The Fall series 2 re-produces my addiction for thrill. The relationship between Stella Gibson and Paul Spector left me breathless, with every interaction burning a spot on my heart. I couldn't believe the incredible lift from series 1 (which I gave 5 stars) and only wish I could give this series 6 stars. A must see!
  • Aug 03, 2020
The Fall's second season reveals an improvement face the previous one. It is more interesting, the thrilling scenes are more compelling now and the acting was on point.
  • Jun 06, 2020
The second season continues in the same good quality as the first, but moves very slowly to the missing conclusion of the latter, more concerned about the psychological aspects of the plot than the criminal investigation.
  • Sep 26, 2019
Slow, story and direction was poor
  • Sep 08, 2019
went from one of the best crime shows in season 1, to nonsensical drivel in season 2. The worst, and insulting to those who put time in to watch it
  • Sep 27, 2017
Sustained interest with every episode, continued well-written characters, new twists...season 2 takes a cue from season 1 and does it just as well.
  • Nov 30, 2016
Season 2 was when Stella's impervious self-righteousness really started to grate on me. It becomes intolerable in Season 3.
  • Nov 12, 2015
Liked the story. Wished Gillian Anderson wasn't so boring - seemed so one-dimensional compared to the rest of the cast, who were great. And really, did we need all that cleavage? Is that how top female cops dress? A bit much and no cred.
