It's very atmospheric but The Frankenstein Chronicles is wandering a long way from its roots as a re-imagining of Mary Shelley's novel. Go to Full Review

It's an overstuffed pudding of a series, but a delicious one. Go to Full Review

The Frankenstein Chronicles might be hokum, but it's jolly good, rip-roaring hokum, oozing with Victorian gothic atmosphere and a heavily menacing air. Go to Full Review

Andrei D 02/17/2025 It fails to understand what it has and delivers a mostly confusing second season that never engages with the terror at its core See more Nancy M @nmack 01/05/2024 Thoroughly enjoyed this series when we watched it a few years ago. Will probably watch it again soon. See more Rudy A 09/02/2021 A girl constructed of stitched-together body parts is discovered in seedy Victorian London, and Policemen John Marlett (Sean Bean) and his assistant Joseph Nightingale (Richie Campell) are assigned the case. Outwitted at every turn by more villains than any six episode series really needs, Marlett ends up being falsely convicted of murder, is hanged, and then resurrected as a Frankenstein-like creature himself. This first season was entertaining enough, if confusing, although arlett and Nightingale's incompetence did grow tiresome. Season Two started out promising enough, and could have been a delightful romp for Bean as a now powerful monster seeking vengeance on those who wronged him. But somehow his powers didn't last very long and he was back to his old bungling self in episodes driven by even more villains, crimes, political intrigues, pseudoscience mumbo-jumbo, and even ghosts, Having invested so much time, I watched to the end, but had I known how it ended up, I probably wouldn't have started. See more andrew k 08/01/2020 Good show. Interesting take. I really enjoyed it. See more 03/13/2020 The Frankenstein Chronicles continues into a second limited "season" of 6-episodes as John Marlott returns from the dead. After being reanimated, disgraced former Inspector John Marlott goes in search of his creator and stumbles upon a series of murders of local clergymen. The plot's a little hard to follow at first, as there's a time jump between seasons and most of the characters and plot threads from the last season are dropped – requiring some adjustment to the new characters and settings. Still, the story ends up being rather interesting and the writers do a good job at building the mystery and intrigue. And the performances are also pretty strong. Yet while The Frankenstein Chronicles delivers a fairly solid second season, it doesn't seem to be fulfilling its potential. See more farah r @Farah 06/15/2019 This season's plot line is less engaging than that of season 1 but it's equally interesting and well acted. Sean Bean continues to impress with his great performance and the quality of the show is ever so striking. The costumes, set design, score and effects are all done extremely well. I'm not sure if there's to be another season but I'll definitely be on the lookout for it. See more Read all reviews
