The American Gilded Age was a period of immense economic change, great conflict between the old ways and brand new systems, and huge fortunes were made and lost. In 1882, young Marian Brook moves from rural Pennsylvania to New York City after the death of her father to live with her aunts Agnes van Rhijn and Ada Brook. Accompanied by Peggy Scott, an aspiring writer seeking a fresh start, Marian inadvertently becomes enmeshed in a social war between one of her aunts, a scion of the old money set, and her stupendously rich neighbors, a ruthless railroad tycoon and his ambitious wife, George and Bertha Russell. Exposed to a world on the brink of the modern age, Marian must choose if she will follow the established rules of society or forge her own path.

The confluence of trivial matters and real issues, silly characters and some seriously good performances (from Coon and Baranski especially) succeeds in keeping this upper-crust saga from going stale.

The first couple of seasons were very hit or miss. This season is a different show, finally hitting its stride. I wish we got a little more into what happens one on one in these relationships. It has gotten close to a Downtown Abbey quality.

Don’t get tangled up in your corsets, but it appears that The Gilded Age (Sky Atlantic), from Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, is finally as shiny and vivacious as the title suggests.

He best season they have made yet by far! Truly delving into some really deep and serious topics that are often overlooked from other period dramas when it comes to marriage and what it takes to keep one.

I give 4.5 stars. I can not get enough. The acting is amazing. This season reminded me of old soap operas with the cliff hangers. I could not get through the week fast enough to find out what is going to happen. I pray this shows lives for 120 years

The show's storylines get more intriguing, but I've found that only some of the characters are interesting, The Russels, the Aunts, the Astors... and that's kind of it. But the reason I knocked off a star was because the cinematography this season is weird. It's dull and much too blurry/out of focus. It's like they pumped too much haze on the sets. I wish cameras would go back to the way they used to be.

Acting is wonderful, but the plot is incredibly boring. I can’t root for any of the characters because they’re incredibly despicable and greedy. Why does anyone want to watch a show about a bunch of snobby rich people being snobby towards each other?
