What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Girls on the Bus goes round and round a fictionalized campaign trail with high drama and ideals to spare, although it swerves bumpily between its frothy and civic-minded lanes.

It often provides an entertaining look at politics and media just so long as you don't look too closely at the journalism stuff. Go to Full Review

It’s diversion and distraction. It has no more insight into politics and the media than Younger had into publishing or The Bold Type into journalism. Go to Full Review

What the series lacks in moral seriousness it compensates for by gamely and sometimes even rigorously investigating the mechanics of fallibility. Go to Full Review

For me, the four female journalists at the heart of this story worked perfectly. Often in imperfect ways which only made them more interesting and realistic. Go to Full Review

Girls on the Bus smartly modernises and fictionalises the storyline to a present day presidential primary race with no mention of Trump. Go to Full Review

Lee W @RT74589735 May 11 I loved this series and was SO disappointed when it wasn't renewed. Critics have complained that it didn't have a point of view or that it wasn't clear, but I disagree. It was about the friendship that formed among these women due to the shared political experience and goals, despite their differences. Each character was fully fleshed out and each actor did a stellar job. In fact, I liked it so much, I re-watched it several times. Shame on you, MAX, for not promoting this properly, and for leaving your audience hanging by not finishing the story. See more Alejandra R @RT09729577 03/02/2025 Loved this show! Must watch! See more Bugandbear B @RT13449348 12/31/2024 "The Girls on the Bus" is a funny and thoughtful exploration of journalism, ambition, and personal transformation. The narrative weaves multiple storylines with remarkable dexterity, creating a story that is both engaging and slightly audacious. While not every journalistic detail rings perfectly true, the work transcends such minor imperfections through its character studies and exceptional performances. The ensemble cast navigates complex personal conflicts with remarkable depth, ensuring that each narrative thread feels genuinely lived-in. The production's greatest strength lies in its ability to maintain narrative momentum, keeping viewers thoroughly invested despite occasional narrative liberties. Its imperfections ultimately become part of its charm - a testament to the messy, unpredictable nature of human storytelling. As the credits roll, I was left eagerly anticipating the next chapter in this unfolding dramatic journey. See more Mark O @RT75812583 07/23/2024 Fast moving plot, interesting characters and high production values. Realistic (believable) storylines. Really engaging. See more Julie R @RT29196620 07/05/2024 Similar feeling to The Newsroom! Loved it! See more Ellen W @RT13475532 05/18/2024 We enjoyed all the different personalities and looked forward to every Thursday! Great series! See more Read all reviews
