What distinguishes The Good Guys is that it's essentially an action comedy, which lustily embraces those stereotypes, sending them up while also carrying a warm affection for them.

If you're looking for a show that only aims to give you a good time and a few laughs, you could honestly do a whole lot worse than The Good Guys.

The witty scripts make it clear the series doesn't take itself too seriously, and Hanks and Whitford breathe new life into this standard formula.

Though the pilot flags here and droops there, "The Good Guys" will no doubt pick up speed as everyone settles more comfortably into the idea that there are no sacred cows, not even the buddy flick.

Fox's newest buddy series relies too much on the '70's-style moustache of detective Dan Stark (Bradley Whitford) and too little on the chemistry he has (or doesn't) with his partner, Jack Bailey (Colin Hanks).
