Critic Reviews for The Good Place Season 1

While most art creates the narrative that change is easy, The Good Place puts me far more in touch with the stark reality of life's complexities.
For TV lovers who have missed the Thursday nights the Peacock network built its legacy upon, few partnerships are more heavenly than this.
The brilliance of the twist was that it upended everything viewers thought they knew about the show while also making perfect sense.
The quirky comedy breaks the mold of most sit-coms in that it's serialized with each episode ending on a curious note, clearly meant to raise every viewer's desire to see the next installment - and it works.
Fun, colorful, lively - but is there a real show here, or just a good joke?
Turns out The Good Place is a very good place to be indeed.
Confident, intriguing, and wonderfully performed, The Good Place is everything network comedy needed heading into the 2016 season.
Overall, it was a solid entry into the comedy's final season. The stakes are higher than ever before, and I'm intrigued to see how it all ends.
The Good Place proves that you can have ridiculous, exaggerated characters without resorting to tropes.
The cast continues to increase the quality of their performances in a similar way. If you used to like them now you love them. [Full Review in Spanish]
It's been a long time since a television show has shocked me as completely as The Good Place has, and I certainly wasn't expecting it from a half-hour comedy like this.
A show is only as strong as its cast, and this cast is a delight.

5d agoHilarious and heartfelt. The characters are amazing and it has a great mix of comedy and emotion, although this shines out more in the later seasons. The only reason my rating isn't 5 stars is that the seasons get even better.

Feb 27, 2021I just finished this season and it was AWESOME!!!! It was CRAZY! It revealed so much in the last episode and it was a crazy plot twist. I'm really exited to watch the next season.

Jan 18, 2021All the religions on earth and its always a jab at Christ. Coincidence? I think not. You can't earn your way into Heaven only through the atonement and blood of Messiah will you walk into the gates. This is entire show is a scheme of Satan to show like every other religion you work your way into the "good place". They call people the saviors of the universe throughout this show. They build and create worlds as if they are gods. They portray a woman as the judge of the universe. Everything about this show is a slap in Adonai's face a complete mockery of who God is and what He wants for humanity. This show is freaking disgusting.

Dec 11, 2020Smart, unpredictable and charming, The good place's first season stands out from other shows by being unique and very clever. And definitely the last episode was the best one of this season, that plot twist was very unpredictable and I was in shock.

Dec 07, 2020First of all, it's safe to say that The Good Place tells a story in a form that we may have never seen before in any TV show. Michael Schur's idea of showing the experiences of life after death is risky. But the way, almost absurdity, with which the main characters get to know the afterlife borders on ingenuity and brings a lot of joy to audiences. The selection of our characters is also an enrichment. Kristen Bell as Eleanor experiences a real rollercoaster ride in the first season. Together with her closest friends Chidi (William Jackson Harper), Tahani (Jameela Jamil) and Jason (Manny Jacinto) they present real challenges for the almost suspiciously nice founder of Good Place, Michael (Ted Danson). Ted Danson clearly stands out in this first season. As the "father" of all the inhabitants of his invention, he is constantly on the go and is always on his toes with a lot of wit and is emotionally challenged, which makes his performance irresistible. Another thing that makes this show so special are its regular cliff hangers. Unlike the majority of sitcoms, The Good Place features many dramatic moments that make a clear connection between the individual episodes. While it's often the case with comedies that each episode is structured completely differently, here you have to concentrate well in order to be able to follow the plot. These mystery/thriller elements, combined with a strongly dominant comedic flair, make the first season of The Good Place a positive change. It heralds a series that has the potential to go down as one of the most perplexing, but also one of the most intelligent shows in recent TV history.

Nov 01, 2020The Good Place Season 1 is full of good performances and some twists but isn't as entertaining as it is led to be.

Oct 13, 2020It's a beautiful show. Perfectly balanced message, not too heavy-handed like you might think. Give it a chance.
