Tv Season Info

In this sitcom, three heirs to their father's fortune discover they stand to make millions if they can adhere to his will, which specifies they complete a series of unusual challenges and learn to act as a loving family again. The contentious, estranged offspring are played by Scott Foley (Henry), an insufferably successful surgeon who returns home and reconnects with the true love, Lucinda (Kat Williams), who got away; Becki Newton (Chloe) is the brainy middle offspring, a child math whiz whose subsequent career choices just haven't added up to anything special; and T.J. Miller (Jimmy) is the underachieving foul-up of a baby brother who's served time and come home to start a new relationship with his 8-year-old daughter. Seen on video-taped messages is their late father, Benjamin (Beau Bridges), who laments the parental skills that have lead to his children having drifted apart, but hopes his "games" will be able to bring them back together and make the family one again.

Intriguing premise. Unfortunately, the story and characters feel more awkward than refreshing.

Although the cast is good, the general lack of imagination makes it seem unlikely the writers will be able to keep working new variations on the premise every week.

Goodwin Games isn't an Olympian comedy but it's by no means an out-and-out clunker either.

The Goodwin Games is bad, bad, bad.

The "games" include a specially designed version of Trivial Pursuit where all the questions reveal aspects of this unhappy clan's back story. That's as clever as Goodwin gets, and except for Newton's daffy sparkle, there's no real incentive to play along.
