The Great American Recipe is an aggressively generic cooking competition, from the music to the physical space, and has no real reason for existing. Go to Full Review

Amateur C @RT85445983 Jul 15 I'm hoping the other seasons have more objective judging. The biased judging on this season ruins it. The judges are constantly talking in favor of the winning contestant, even before she starts cooking, such as: "It's chicken salad, but it might be the best chicken salad you ever tasted". Seriously? Chicken salad beat out much more complicated recipes. As did flavored Hellman's mayo, soup, and a taco. I'd think the winner would be embarrassed. I couldn't even finish watching it. I'm sorry the Syrian mom, the man from Vietnam, and the RI fire fighter were all treated unfairly. See more Sally S @RT60462746 Jul 15 The judge’s bias was so obvious by the 4th episode of the 1st season that I loudly announced the winner in my living room. Indeed, I was right. Completely disappointed. Judges: do better, don’t be so transparent. When a soup beats much more complex dishes, I started yelling at the TV. See more michael a @Vikesmike 08/31/2022 Really bad judges and totally biased outcome. The chick (Silvia) who cooked tacos almost every time ends up winning?!? What the ? She can barely plate food and because this season was pre-determined because of bias, she ends up winning. There were at least 5 other cooks in that room (including Kevin) who were much better than her, stretched their normal cooking, challenged themselves, and yet she make tacos (or a form of tacos) almost every single time and wins?!? Totally rigged for reasons you can guess. One time she even made soup. Each time my wife and I were like, "the judges aren't going to like that because of.." and then they totally fawn over her. We couldn't believe it. I don't think the other contestants could believe it either. Look at their faces in the last episode. Really PBS??? Won't watch another season. Great British Baking show is where it is at. Actual talent and actual judges. Skip this one. See more Elizabeth R @RT67915993 08/13/2022 I think it's taking tropes from other cooking shows and interpreting badly. The challenge themes are simplistic, and one is really not differentiated from another. Also, there are too many judges, and Leah Cohen is cringingly condescending. See more 07/16/2022 For a show obviously copying GBBO model, it would be nice to actually SEE the food being prepared, rather than the shakey, at times out of focus, camera shots, just focusing on the contestant talking, their constant backstory, making ridiculously simple food like tacos, pizza, leaded nachos. I'd give it a lower rating if it let me. See more 06/26/2022 The people in the show are great salt of the earth people, but the show itself? It's bad. The sound quality is poor and has all the charm of a middle school gymnasium and the shots poorly framed. The elevator muzak added for texture falls flat and is frankly disconnected and irritating. It's easy to forget that this a cooking show. There's very little in the way of showing us what is being done or worked on and far too many "Live at Five" news style closeups. Despite the title, there's sadly little in the way of recipes. How about pulling back so we can see what the people are doing while you talk to them? Control the echo in the sound. For me, this bad project is a honkshoe See more Read all reviews
