"The Halcyon" is an eight-part drama series set in 1940s London, featuring an all-star cast including Steven Mackintosh, Olivia Williams, Kara Tointon, Matt Ryan, Hermione Corfield and Mark Benton, with music written by Jamie Cullum. The story is framed around a glamorous five-star hotel, in the heart of the city, during a time of war. London life during World War II is portrayed through the relationships, politics, families and work of the characters, across the social scale.

Like most comment, it's really too bad it didn't get picked up for further seasons... And didn't have an oppurtunity to properly put a bow on it's plots. There were a lot of balls still in the air at the end of ep8. Pretty similar vibe to Downton Abby, should appeal to Eng & WW2-on-the-homefront history fans. Bonus: It's old enough actual effort was made to fit the obligatory 'updates' within the context, time and setting, without the modern attempts that blow you right out of a show's context, to smack you around with 'importance'.
