The show has spent three seasons building out an alternate world. What a shame it would be if it never developed the imagination or ambition to really explore it.

For the most part, however, the show is stuck in a repetitive loop, both by design and accident.

The Handmaid's Tale reflects the mainstream, white version feminism while appropriating the nightmarish visuals of slavery's brutality.

June -- trapped in her sequence of shock, rebellion, rinse, repeat -- doesn't feel like a person anymore.

Season 3 arrives right on cue, addressing topical issues such as forced pregnancies via future-shock scenarios.

The compelling love/hate relationship between June and Serena Joy will continue to heat up and twist around.

Trust nobody. And wait until you discover what Lydia's backstory is.

The Handmaid's Tale fails to incorporate historical parallels to Gilead into the narrative, erasing black women from the very stories of their own subjugation.

From a perpetually flat June making breathtakingly stupid decisions to the ongoing cosmic joke that is this show's writer/director gender breakdown, it's hard to keep rooting for "The Handmaid's Tale."

The show still looks great... But the logical inconsistencies are piling up faster than the worn-out bodies in the Colonies.
