What to Know

Critics Consensus

Grabbing onto thorny moral questions with its bare hands, The Last of Us' second season is a challenging expansion that retains its predecessor's superb performances and verisimilitude.

The pieces are there, but they’re scattered, unable to form something truly memorable. Go to Full Review

The chemistry between Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal is magnificent... their dynamic has been the heart of the show. Go to Full Review

Often these middle seasons can feel like a weigh station, an impatient stopover until the meat of the work in the final act but The Last of Us gifts the audience with many sublime moments that make it more than worthwhile in the meantime. Go to Full Review

Season two of The Last of Us may run only seven episodes and have a slightly slower pace than its freshman outing, but it remains an excellent step forward for what has been quite an incredible adaptation of the popular video game series. Go to Full Review

It really digs into the nature of one side’s freedom fighters being the other side’s terrorists. The more you stop seeing your enemy as a human with the exact same impulses and motives as you, the less human you become. Go to Full Review

Allyson L @Ally76 2d Second season is pretty mid with all the controversial and questionable story decisions - stop there imo See more Bryan W @RT57600814 5d hate watching TV shows but the 1st season I couldn't stop watching. I purchased HBO Max so I could make sure I was prepared for season 2. When it came out I cleared my schedule. I was really into it until Joel died and the storyline really fell apart. It really wasn't worth watching. I really hope season 3 is better or else I'm done with TV shows again See more Kristine G @RT91446012 6d Loved Season 1. Stunning to watch. Loved the touches that harken back to the video game. Loved the cast and their relationship. Really thought the creators would make a smart move and *not* kill off their lead actor. But no. They did. Season 2 is dreadful. I was astounded by how badly the show turned. It’s one thing to kill off a character in a game and have you play as other characters. But tv is different. It’s a different audience, with different expectations and different reasons for watching. The creators don’t understand the streaming market. What I want to get out of a video game is different than what I want to get out of a streaming series. Season 2 is trash compared to Season 1 and I absolutely will not waste my precious time on Season 3. 🗑️🚮 See more Mark T @RT27987258 May 30 MAN.... Screw the haters. Obviously is not better than season 1 but it sure was so good. Can't wait any longer, HBO release next season! See more Ostin M @bostinostinmostin May 26 The dynamic between Ellie and Joel was the heart of the show. Killing Joel in Episode 2 (I know it happened the same way in the game, that doesn't make it right) means there's no heart and, by extension, no point to the show anymore. It's just torture porn and we're the ones being tortured. And as for Season 3 being all about humanising Abby and casting Ellie as the villain, no thanks. Where's the "cancel my subscription to HBO" button? See more Chris E. @OmniMan1776 May 25 Oh boy talk about another franchise that’s fallen due to woke propaganda. They departed from the source material and created a lecture series where the viewers is forced to listen to the agenda that’s being pushing. I’m not even political at all but this is pure propaganda slop. See more Read all reviews
