Tv Season Info

Season 2 opens in Jarden, Texas, aka Miracle, a town known the world over for not losing a single person to the "Sudden Departure," and one where Kevin, Jill, Nora and baby Lily hope to start anew with a clean slate. Preceded by Matt, who's found a new preaching gig, and his wife, Mary, they're welcomed by their new neighbors and lifelong residents Erika and John Murphy. The latter, however, is leery of charlatans and carpetbaggers who seek to profit from Miracle's reputation, but that stature is called into question after three young girls vanish without a trace. Back on the East Coast, Tom goes undercover to lure skeptics from the Guilty Remnant, while Laurie works on a tell-all book to expose the chain-smoking cult's silent campaign of intimidation. Also starring Ann Dowd, Liv Tyler, Jovan Adepo, Steven Williams and Jasmin Savoy Brown.

But the thing is, most of those dizzy moments - including the first episode's epic opening, which seems tethered to nothing else - are as entertaining as they are mystifying.

The new season makes a start so fresh, it's almost a rebooting: new location, new characters, an occasional smile. The show remains uniquely interested in coping-or not-with tragedy, but flashes of something that looks like hope have entered the scene.

Thank heavens: Instead of expending energy trying to do a Sherlock Holmes, viewers can simply let themselves sink deeper and deeper into the mystery.

Audience Reviews for The Leftovers: Season 2

  • Sep 02, 2019
Quite simply some of the best TV I have ever seen - the finale of Season 2 had me in tears, which as a big strong guy is not a light achievement and left me looking in at myself. Truly exceptional.
  • Nov 02, 2018
One of the all-time best seasons of television.
  • Sep 27, 2018
A change in setting but maintaining the same depressing atmosphere makes the shows second season more intriguing than the first good season.
  • Jan 05, 2018
I watched all kind of series... but none as good as this one.

The first and last episodes were mind-blowing and everything in-between was great entertainment. Didn't want to stop watching.

Season 2 again completely knocked it out of the park for me, so many twists and turns and even more great character. Justin Theroux and Carrie Coon give just such amazing performances that kept shaking me and grabbing the heart strings. Christopher Eccleston is great again, its just that his character to me lost some of its relevance compared to the first season. The change of location didn't bother me, it just felt like a new chapter and shifting of the main focus. Only quip I had, was that, as in season one, the storyline of character Tom Garvey to me was just a distraction and not really relevant. Each time spend with just was a waste of time, not because of the acting performance, which was good, it just for me didn't add anything to the series, his sister Jill was way more interesting. Ann Dowd as Patti gave just such an amazing performance, so complex that as a viewer you kept feeling different about her, but in the end I just felt empathy. Wow, such a fantastic series.

'The Leftovers' loses some points in my book just because of how it has to develop plot threads and characters that aren't as interesting as the others. It quickly overcomes any stalling though, and flows into an interesting new twist or plot issue that grips you until the episode ends and you're left asking for more.
