Critic reviews for Crazy Whitefella Thinking
In Grace's narrative of her five kids wandering into the desert and dying after the Departure, The Leftovers found a horrible new permutation of an already horrific event whose possibilities, it might have seemed, the show had exhausted.
The last two episodes of "The Leftovers" have turned the spotlight on two unbelievable talents, but they've also dealt with extraordinary faith on each end of the spectrum: unflinching disbelief and resolute ideology.
Scott Glenn has always played the character beautifully, because he's a terrific actor. Somehow he's able to subtly modulate his trademark steely squint to play out an incredible range of emotions.
Whitefella may not have been the most exciting hour of television, but in true alignment with the show, it offers up a lot of weirdness and that is moving and human.
The Leftovers is one of the more intimate, emotional shows on TV, so "Crazy Whitefella Thinking" ends on a note of, if not hope (not exactly), then at least promise, and purpose.
