Critic Consensus: "It's a Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World" uses real-life global drama as grist for a strange, funny, and ultimately thought-provoking series of events that tie into familiar Leftovers themes while advancing a central character's arc.

Critic reviews for It's a Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World
I've loved how The Leftovers has sprinkled in Biblical metaphors and parallels, especially the apocalyptic Book of Revelation, but I honestly never considered that the show might drift into Godzilla territory.
This was, I think, my favorite episode of the third series so far, from the bravura opening sequence on the French nuclear submarine to the lion orgy to the final confrontation between Matt and a man calling himself God.
Absurdity didn't just reign supreme throughout It's a Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World, it also saved the titular madman.
Even though I don't know entirely what to make of this ending, I still thought it felt like a kind of culmination for the character [of Matt].
Laurie is this episode's underdog, her feistiness really shining through in her frustrations with Matt.
